Pharmaceutical Science Degrees

Pharmaceutical Science is an interdisciplinary field that includes areas of study in chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacotherapy, and health outcomes. Students applying to the graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences will select a division-specific training track that most closely matches their interests. The University of Texas College of Pharmacy offers a Ph.D. program with specialization in each of these areas of pharmaceutical sciences and a M.S. degree program that is limited to the pharmacotherapy and health outcomes areas of research.

Graduate training in the pharmaceutical sciences program is housed within five different divisions. Students applying to pharmaceutical sciences select a division-specific training track that most closely matches their interests. Visit each of the division homepages to learn more about faculty research and to get details on the division specific graduate program objectives and curriculum.

Courses of study leading to a master of science degree are only offered in pharmacotherapy and in health outcomes.

Each graduate student’s course of study may be uniquely tailored to meet the specific learning objectives of the student.

  • Health Outcomes
  • Pharmacotherapy

Graduate education, research, and scholarly work leading to a Ph.D. are developed uniquely for each student as part of his/her plan of work.

Students applying to the graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences will select a division-specific training track that most closely matches their interests.

Each of the five division specific tracks, listed below, have course work and research training specifically tailored for training in the track-specific field.

  • Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry
  • Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery
  • Pharmacology & Toxicology

Translational Science Degree

The Translational Science program is designed to provide training in the area of translational science toward the goal of applying basic biomedical scientific discoveries into strategies that will improve healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and community health.

For many years, extensive national resources have been devoted to basic biomedical (bench) and clinical (human subject) research; however, significant barriers continue to exist in moving knowledge bi-directionally between basic research, clinical research, and applications to improve health outcomes in individuals and the community. These barriers make it difficult to efficiently and effectively translate new knowledge into improved patient care.

To remedy these problems, Translational Science has emerged as an academic and scientific discipline. Translational Science (TS) is a scientific discipline that investigates methods to move discovery more efficiently and effectively into application. TS investigators must respond, interact, facilitate change, and conduct research within and among varied organizational behaviors, structures, and cultures. TS conducts rigorous studies that close the knowledge gaps between different levels of the research process – the basic science laboratory, clinical research discoveries, and application of these research findings toward disease prevention and management, and strategies to improve human, community, and global health.

The doctoral degree program in Translational Science is offered as a multi-institutional joint degree program between The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio), and The University of Texas at San Antonio, in collaboration with The University of Texas School of Public Health regional campus in San Antonio. Graduate students complete their research on the campus of the university of their faculty mentor.

The Translational Science graduate program is designed to leverage the existing resources and expertise in specific key areas of each university to offer a strong, diverse, and competitive Ph.D. training program. This program is designed to prepare the next generation of scientists to lead multi-disciplinary biomedical research teams in increasingly complex research environments. These scientists will advance knowledge in the area of translational research toward the goal of applying basic biomedical scientific discoveries into strategies that will improve healthcare delivery, patient outcomes, and community health.

A complete description of the objectives of this graduate training program, course curriculum and milestones, eligibility for admission, and application process can be found on the UTHSCSA Translational Science site .

phd entrance exam after m pharm

The dual Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program allows students enrolled in the PharmD program to also begin working toward a PhD degree in one of our three PhD programs concurrently or sequentially.  Upon completion of the dual program, students will have earned the PharmD degree, making them eligible for state licensure as pharmacists, and the PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy translational sciences, and medicinal chemistry.

A major advantage of this program is that, by combining some degree requirements, it may reduce the time normally required to complete the two degrees separately.  Students must be newly admitted or currently enrolled in the PharmD program to be considered for admission to the dual program.

Listing Row

The dual PharmD/PhD program is designed to allow concurrent enrollment in both PharmD and PhD courses in order to shorten the time required for achieving both degrees sequentially.  Students that begin the dual program at the start of their P1 year will realize the maximum benefit for completing the requirements for both degrees.

Applicants must apply and be accepted to both the PharmD program and the PhD program in order to matriculate in the dual program.  The application process is separate for each program and deadlines must be met for both programs.  The PhD program will accept PCAT scores for applicants to the dual PharmD/PhD program only.  Note that some national agencies that provide funding to PhD students (such as training grants and student initiated grants) may require that a candidate take the GRE exam later in order to qualify for assistance.

Candidates for the dual PharmD/PhD program may take the appropriate PhD course sequence in place of the PharmD course sequences for specific disciplines (i.e., pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry).  Remaining core PhD coursework required for the PhD degree will be satisfied by taking courses that will also count as elective coursework for the PharmD degree.  See the Curriculum tab for more details.

This is a multiple degree program; however, the requirements for either degree are not dependent on completion of both programs.  A candidate that wishes to withdraw from one of the dual programs is eligible to complete the other degree.  There may be financial implications for not completing both programs.  See the Funding tab for more details.

PharmD candidates are required to complete a certain number of patient contact hours for licensure through Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs).  The timing of IPPEs and APPEs in the dual program can be flexible and negotiated with the student, the research advisor, and the Experiential Education Director.  There is also a required P4 Seminar that students must complete.

Students are required to complete the degree requirements for both the PharmD and PhD in their specific discipline.

The PharmD curriculum can be found HERE

The PhD curriculum for the Pharmaceutical Sciences program can be found HERE

The PhD curriculum for the Clinical Pharmacy Translational Sciences program can be found HERE

The PhD curriculum for the Medicinal Chemistry program can be found HERE

The combined PharmD/PhD curriculum plan can vary by student when admitted.  A sample curricular plan can be found HERE

Students enrolled in the Dual PharmD/PhD program will have the opportunity to engage in research as early as the summer prior to starting coursework in the dual program.  Students will be given the opportunity to explore research opportunities at the College of Pharmacy for up to three summers before officially joining a laboratory.  Summer funding is dependent on when a student begins the dual program.

See the Funding tab for more details.

Funding for Dual PharmD/PhD candidates is intended to support students with their research efforts as early as possible to ensure successful completion of the dual program in a timely manner.  New students admitted to the dual program will enjoy the following support:

  • Up to three funded summers of research support beginning with the summer prior to the didactic start of the program (stipend and health benefits for self and dependents).  The number of summers depends on when the student begins the dual program.
  • Up to $45,000 forgivable grant for the PharmD portion of the dual program (PharmD years 1 through 4 of being enrolled in the dual program; amount will  be less if enrollment in the dual program begins in PharmD year 2 or later).  Note, if a student does not complete either the PharmD or PhD portion, this grant turns into a low interest loan that must be repayed over time.
  • Full funding for the PhD portion of the dual program following completion of the PharmD (typically beginning year 5) which includes a full tuition waiver, stipend, and health benefits for self and dependents.  Funding sources can include any combination of fellowship, teaching, research, or traineeship.

Current PharmD or PhD students that apply to and are accepted into the dual program after starting either program will receive support commensurate with when they were admitted to the dual program.

Things to know about Jamia hamdard M Pharm (Pharmaceutics)

The course curriculum is practical and industry oriented with new revision and updation. The course covers theoretical aaswell as practical learning. The practicals prepares student with real world applications. Subjects like modern pharmaceutics and cadd covers contemporary industrial practices which are essential in indistry. One thing that I would suggest is to revise the practicals and to add some innovative and new practicals in curriculum

The college celebrates all indian festivals along with this college celebrates pharmacy week every year which has co curricular activities. The most amazing facts about VNS Bhopal

80,000/- per year and for 2 years it's 1,60000/- is the fees of VNS and yes there is the scholarship policy for the ST/Sc and OBC category the scholarship is over 50,000/- so the fee for per semester is 40,000 and have to give in installation

The best part about my course is that i hace all the machines and equipment here at VNS and the most important they have there own animal house at VNS for the animal study as well, That's why i choosed vns over any other college in bhopal

By the way, I simply told you it's amazing university in all over the Rajasthan

I want to do masters of pharmacy as my bachelor's is from pharmacy and I seen the Rate and review of the University, Placement list of persons is good. Faculty strength is sufficient in all departments. Faculty is Good well experienced and all are PhD holders and have good communication skills. More courses are semester wise and the passing is based on the capability of the individual

If you want to job in university you will apply for that anf if you selected your tuition fee is shorted to half of your tuition fee. Scholarship is given in majority of the courses ,on the basis of your previous years degree percentage. And also based on foreign country

Good college Campus and Qualified Staff

After complition of my Graduation, Then I choose master degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy field have the opportunity in Pharma sector as well as medical coding and pharmacovigilance. In our class 10 student Well qualified Staff as well as Teaching Method is very good. Term exam passing there is required regular study as well as attain all lectures.

In the library All study related and extra curricular activities related books available. In college Campus sports and other events like inter college competition, some webinar. NSS camp. Me got opportunity in State level NSS camp.

MVP college of pharmacy

If your g pat qualified you're not eligible for any other scholarships. And for unqualified people if your ews you will get 50% and obs also and for open and minorities they will get 25k per year. The fee structure of MVP is 1 lakh right now and they decide to will increase the amount fee for students because they want to give that money to students for there projects if the fee will increase so I thing it will be 1 lakh 20 thousand. Yes, I got gpat stipend that is 12400 monthly.

I have chosen ndmvp due to their connections and placements right now they have good placements to any other college in Maharashtra. The faculty is good but not sufficient instruments are good all teaching staff has 10+ experience in teaching exam is tough but anybody can pass the exam by hard work.

Best college i ever find in Gujarat with comfortable atmosphere

I want to open a medical shop and also to make career in the pharmaceutical industry Nearly about 4 students per faculty to get an easy understanding of projects Faculties were qualified as phd doctors and masters Every unit has its own unit test

Every year in February month college will organises a youth festival for students in that students can show their talents. Having a very good library with lots of books from each department Sports week is also organised by College

A beautiful life of IIT BHU

I was interested in doing pharmaceutics as it is in great demand Faculty: Students ratio in different specializations is different but in mine, it is 3:1. all teachers are post-doc. There is an annual calendar according to that exam happens and exam are easy to pass.

life at the campus is good and relaxing there are many fests like technic -march, Kashi yatra- Jan, spardha - dec, there are many books and approx 30 journals we have AC and smart classes. they conduct sports events regularly in every month.

Life in Himalayan

This is the fast-growing college I have seen, structure is getting better, and classes are well furnished. All the necessary equipment and the machines are available the campus contains a playground and garden it divided into three blocks of pharmacy, which have labs for different subjects library and classrooms.

This college provides you with placements in good companies and industries with a good salary package. the companies hire you by taking your campus interview (walk-in interviews). the interview contains all the simple questions you learned all year and must be heard by your teachers.

It’s a good place where you can build you knowledge and mind with beautiful infrastructure

There are many scholarships right from admission and many other opportunities where you would get a better scholarship. Talking about fee structure one has to pay advance fees for one semester and it's sometimes hard for a middle-class student to arrange the fees on time so I request to allow the student to sit on examination. Signing no dues at the time of the exam is very unnecessary as when you have all the slips of paid fees then it should be enough.

Because it will help me in the field where I wish to work in and get chance to get more knowledge about subjects. For better job opportunities in job. There are good placement policies and get a much better package for work. The main reason for choosing this course is to get knowledge of the pharmaceutical and many other guidelines that govern them.

Bright future hub

My interest in medical line. So I choose this course because in this course I access more information about medicines. In this college that's brilliant knowledgeable and hard-working staffs are there. Many of them are highly educated degree holders teachers are their that makes our study easy and any student can easily pass in the exams

Apart from education, there's an annual fest is also organised on their schedule date and many activities are also performed from time to time. In this college that's a huge building of library, different different departments have there different library

Get your degree with great learning from experience teacher and enjoyfull campus environment.

The college campus is vast, many activities are conducted on the college ground. The location of the college is safe and surrounded by hills with beautiful views for a peaceful environment. The college has a great and maintained library, playground and canteen. Different activities like cultural fests, marathons, sports, and technical events are conducted in the college. There are always guards at the gate and the area is all safe. In college, you get new friends. Teachers and support staff are friendly to talk with and support and helps in every aspect from their point of view. Students can engage in co-curricular activities to showcase their talent, campus Life is very inspiring and exciting.

HGPI is one of the best opportunities for internships for college students. Internships provide networking opportunities and ways to meet people who can serve as mentors. They're an excellent way to get college credit for the experience. An internship provides the opportunity to not just apply classroom learning to the real world, but gain practical skills as well. A great internship helps any resume, especially if it provides a student with hands-on experience in their field. It also serves as proof to employers that a graduate is serious about their chosen profession. There are also many incentives and benefits like more paid internships through platforms.
