I have some cherished memories with my teacher. Whenever I think of those memories, it makes me blissful. On the last day of my nursery school, I started crying at the very thought of leaving her and having a new teacher. I had fallen sick due to crying for hours together. I skipped my food. My parents were not able to do anything. They called for her to make me feel better. My teacher travelled a few miles across the city and reached the hospital. She, then, said that she would never forget any of her students and asked me to write to her. I started writing to her every week from then on and she replied to every letter of mine. Till date, I look at my teacher as my second mother and she guides me in all my difficult situations.

My favorite subject is English and my most favorite teacher is Chitra Ma’am. She teaches us English. She likes me a lot and appreciates my hard work. She joined our school one year ago. Before that, I was not so good at English. But after attending her classes, we have all become much better at this subject.

There are many activities given at the end of every lesson and she makes us participate in all of them. Not only that, but she also encourages us to take part in drama and poem competitions. Since her first day, she made a rule for us.

All of us has to speak in English during the English period. Every student tries to talk in English even if the sentence sounds improper. She has taught us to never laugh at each other’s mistakes. This has improved our spoken English in a great way. Now, we are able to talk in English with more confidence.

Another great quality of hers is that she treats every child equally. After explaining the lesson to us, she asks each one of us different questions about the chapter. Sometimes, we also love to talk about our personal lives, like what do we like about our lives, how our parents work hard for us, and things like that.

When we get confused or need an emotional support, she is the best person to talk to. Her advice and suggestions are always positive. Last month, on teacher’s day, all the students wished her and brought presents for her. We also sang a song to her.

I made a beautiful greeting card for her and a red rose with it. She accepted it with a smile and thanked us for everything. I feel grateful to have such a gentle and great teacher in my life who supports me in every way.

I have several teachers now that I am in high school but there is only one whom I can relate to as “the teacher” because of the impact he has made in my life. The teacher is male, of Indian origin and has a funny accent when he speaks. He is married and has three children. Actually, one of his children is my age and I know him through tennis practice because he comes to train with us sometimes. I like him because his sense of humor gives a good learning experience for the students. He is a math teacher and he is very good at what he does. Students tend to make fun of him because of his accent but he make fun of it himself, which gets even funnier. This teacher has been a great mentor to me and other student ever since we joined high school. I met him on a personal level one day after class when I needed clarification on a topic I had not quite understood. The teacher was kind to me and guided me through it. Since then, he took his own initiative to do follow-ups on me and I became really good in math due to his efforts.

Coincidentally, he also coaches my tennis team and we meet out on the field. We have won several awards as a tennis team under him. I feel connected to the teacher through his mentorship and he has become like a school parent to me because whenever I have an issue, he is free to help me out.

Mentorship goes along way depending on the approach used. When I first joined high school, I did not have much confidence in myself. This teacher mentored me and made me believe in myself. He has also been a role model to me through his way of doing things. He is dedicated to his work and he is an achiever. Through following his footsteps, I have been able to dedicate myself into studies and sports, which has helped me to achieve my goals.

New method teachers: the tutors under this model are student-oriented. They are more concerned about their learners and their various levels of understanding. They accept and promote contributions in class unlike the old method teachers. New method teachers encourage the inquisitiveness of their students.

Personally, I see my teacher as a mini-god because he leaves his mark on me. He influences my life in ways that enables me affect changes wherever I find myself.

He is a perfect example of the new model teachers. Basically, he is student-oriented. In the classroom, he employs the Eclectic mode of teaching (this is the combination of all the modes of teaching “discussion mode, play way mode, role play mode, question mode” so as to facilitate standard learning).

He comes into the classroom; starts the lecture with a recap of what was discussed in the previous class, gives room for the students to ask questions that arose from the last class, answers them and then starts a new topic.

To start a new topic, he starts with a mind-capturing introduction that attracts the attention of all students. Once he is through with introducing the topic, he gauges our reaction in order for him to know if his students are on the same page with him or left behind.

Then, he moves on to the discussion mode of teaching, whereby he throws questions to his students and accommodates both relevant and irrelevant answers, at the end of this model, he sieves through the answers provided, pick the relevant ones and add his own iota to it, he also always applaud the courage of all who answers his questions.

He moves either into the role play method or the play way method, here he selects students to either act out the lessons from the day’s topic or summarizes what he has taught for the day. The use of this particular mode enlightens the students more on the topic being discussed.

Finally, he moves over to the questions and revision mode, where he personally go through all he has taught over the course of the period. During this mode, he entertains questions from students on their personal areas of difficulties. Occasionally, he gives assignments to back up his teachings.

During his teachings, he pays close attention to the expression, mood, sitting posture and carriage of his students. This tells him when his students are lost, sad, worried, hungry, sick, away in dream land or simply tired.

Once he is done processing the information gotten from our faces, he either finds a way of brightening the mood of his students, bringing them back from the dream world, or ending his class without breaking his stride or alerting the whole population of students to what is currently going on.

It is only normal for a human being to reflect his mood whenever he is talking or interacting, but my teacher hardly ever allow his bad, horrible moods interfere with his teachings.

Outside the classroom, my teacher is approachable, fatherly, and jovial. He entertains all and no one is excluded from his open arms, smiles and affections.

He is a good counselor who is always ready to help me out of my tight corners. He gives twenty first century advises in a fatherly way.

Although, due to my teachers lenient ways with students, some students tend to be lazy, disrespectful, stubborn or rude. He has a way of being firm, maintaining class control while teaching.

In conclusion, my teacher has all the attributes and more of a new method teachers. He is capable of combining all modes of teaching, he is compassionate, passionate, and friendly. From my interactions with him, I can confidently say that he is one of the best teachers around.

I liked her, particularly as she attempted simple approaches to show us beneficial things. We made the most of her class. She taught us English subject as well. She even made us giggle by telling heaps of jokes in the middle of when she taught. My English teacher is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. Her strict attitude and disciplined nature helped in increasing my vocabulary and fluency in the language. She always insisted that we read the daily English newspaper, which helped us understand the language better.

One of the things that I admire most about her is her ability to make the class interactive and engaging. She would always ask questions and encourage participation from all students. She would also give us real-life examples of how we could use the language in our daily lives.

Another thing that I appreciate about her is her dedication to her students. She would always go the extra mile to help us understand a concept or answer any questions we had. She would also give us extra practice materials and exercises to help us improve our language skills.

Furthermore, her strict nature helped us in understanding the importance of discipline and punctuality. It helped us in developing a good habit of being on time and completing our assignments on time. Overall, my English teacher has played a crucial role in shaping my language skills and helping me become more confident in my abilities. I am grateful for all that she has taught me and will always remember her as the best teacher I have ever had.

My Teacher Essay 2 –

My math teacher is one of the strictest teachers I have ever had. He assigns a lot of homework on a daily basis, mostly involving writing formulas and theorems. At first, it was very frustrating for all of us students and we would often grumble about it. However, if we missed writing these sheets, we would be punished.

Despite the initial difficulties, this teacher’s methods proved to be effective. When we gave our final exam, the results were overwhelming. We all got full marks in math, something that was previously unimaginable for us. Before his class, we would struggle to score even 40%.

This teacher truly changed our lives. Before his class, I would run away from math and found it to be a daunting subject. But now, it has become my favorite subject. I have come to realize that sometimes we misunderstand our teachers based on their attitude and strictness. But, it’s only when we listen to them and get our results that we understand their true intentions.

I am grateful to this teacher for pushing us to be better and for helping us understand the complexities of math. He has instilled in us a love for the subject and has helped us become more confident in our abilities. He will always be remembered as a great teacher who has made a positive impact on our lives.

My Teacher Essay 3 –

My history teacher is one of the most innovative teachers I have ever had. History was always a boring subject for me and I never understood why it was important to learn about the past in the present. But this teacher made us understand the importance of learning history and he taught the subject in a unique and interesting way.

He would always teach the subject differently than the other teachers. He would make connections between historical events and current affairs, which helped us understand the significance of what we were learning. He would also use interactive methods such as role-playing and debates to make the class more engaging.

Because of his teaching methods, I started to remember the dates and events mentioned in history, along with the difficult names of leaders and soldiers and places. He made the subject so interesting that I actually started to look forward to his class.

This teacher has changed my perspective on history. Before his class, I would find it boring and difficult to understand. But now, I have a newfound appreciation for the subject and often find myself discussing historical events and connecting them with current affairs.

I am grateful to this teacher for making history come alive for me. His unique teaching methods and enthusiasm for the subject have made a huge impact on my understanding and appreciation for history. He is truly a wonderful teacher who has made a positive impact on my life.

My Teacher Essay 4 –

My yoga instructor is one of the most impactful educators I have ever had. Typically, students enjoy all of their teachers, but I had a special fondness for my yoga instructor. There was a significant reason for this. From a young age, I had a love for food and would constantly snack throughout the day. This led to me becoming overweight and the target of bullying from my classmates, even during yoga class. I began to avoid attending yoga class as a result.

However, one day, my yoga instructor approached me in the cafeteria and spoke kindly to me. She encouraged me to focus on my health and well-being, rather than paying attention to the bullies. She urged me to attend class regularly and as I did, she praised my progress, boosting my confidence and motivation to become more flexible in yoga. This ultimately changed my life and helped me to become healthier and in better shape.

Now, my bullies are quiet in my presence and this is all thanks to my yoga instructor. Not only did she teach me yoga, but also how to properly care for my body and health. She was not just a teacher, but a mentor and guide to me. I will always be grateful to her for changing my life and helping me to become a better and healthier person.

My Teacher Essay 5 –

My craft teacher is one of the most inspiring educators I have ever had. I never considered myself to be particularly artistic or creative, but my craft teacher had a way of bringing out the best in her students. She was passionate about her subject, and it was contagious. Her enthusiasm for crafting and her ability to explain things in a way that was easy to understand, made me excited to learn.

From the moment I walked into her classroom, I knew that this was going to be different from any other class I had taken before. She had a way of making every student feel comfortable and confident in their abilities. She would take the time to work with each student individually, giving them the attention they needed to improve their skills.

I remember my first project in her class was a clay pot, I was so excited to start working on it, but I had no idea how to begin. My craft teacher walked me through the process, step by step, and before I knew it, I had created a beautiful pot that I was proud of. She encouraged me to be creative and to think outside the box, and it was because of her guidance that I was able to produce something that was truly unique.

As the year progressed, I found myself looking forward to her class more and more. I discovered that crafting was not only fun but also helped me to relieve stress and anxiety. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. By the end of the year, I had not only grown as a student but also as a person, and I credit my craft teacher for that.

In conclusion, my craft teacher was not only a great educator but also a mentor and a guide, who helped me to discover my hidden talents. I will always be grateful to her for changing my life and making me a better and more creative person.

Narrative Essay: My Favorite Teacher

Introduction

My favorite teacher of all time has to be my English literature teacher. He was called Mr. Radford, and Mr. Radford is my favorite teacher for many reasons, all of which I will go over as they happened. The course of events goes from my first year to my last year of high school.

Taught me history

My favorite teacher was my English literature teacher. He started out as my history teacher and made a first impression as a bit of a stuffy old man. He believed in god, even though most of the class didn’t, and he was known for shouting at kids. He was also oddly loved by the older students, and nobody in the first year knew why as we sat in class before him.

The world is flat

He started a lesson by telling us the world is flat. He said he could prove it and encouraged the class to quiz him on it. We spent the whole lesson arguing fiercely that the world was round, but every answer, reason or evidence we gave to him was thrown back with a plausible theory. He explained why we do not fall off of the end of the earth, and gave even more convincing reasons was to why a compass points north and south. As the bell went and we were all about to leave, he said to us, “That is the reception Copernicus got when he tried to explain that the earth was not the center of the universe.”

Had a triple heart bypass

He vanished and we were told he had a triple heart bypass. The support he got from the students was legendary. Shortly before he came back, our English teacher (who was also a fantastic man) died of leukemia. Mr. Fawdry was a great man and treated his students with the same respect he gave adults.

Came back as an English literary teacher

Mr. Radford came back and started to teach English instead of History. He was still the Principal’s second in command, but had decided to change to history. The man who now taught history was a spotty young man who could not handle the class. Veteran teachers had trouble controlling the classes, so having this man teach History was like throwing a lamb to the wolves. Mr. Radford always had control of his class, and even once told of the brainy kid in the class for talking too much (which was a great moment for all of us).

He thought he was history, but he still has a story to live

Mr. Radford stopped teaching history and started teaching English. It was weird seeing him in a new setting, but the class structure and respect level stayed the same. He did not even look ill after having the surgery; although he probably had a lot of time to recover, (it gets harder to remember these days).

Who is making all of this noise?

This was a classic line that he gave as he burst out of his English class. The hallways were always a riot as kids moved from one class to another. He was used to being locked in the dungeon that was the history department. The English class was next to the main hallway. He burst out of his classroom into the crowded hallway and yelled, “Who the hell is making all of this noise.” A young first year student who had only been there a week said, “You are.”

Teachers give you last year’s tests to look at so you can see what it going to be on the exams. They have you do mock tests and they point out the important stuff you need to remember. Mr. Radford gave quality advice that nobody else ever said. For example, he said to use the phrase “of which” in a sentence, as it demonstrates a higher level of English that will get you into the higher grade margins.

He was the only one to outwardly defend me in class

Most kids are bullied in school, and I was called names and picked on all the time. It wasn’t a physical thing, just a constant stream of name-calling. I was used to getting it all day every day. It was only in his class where he once said, “Would you leave him alone.” It’s strange how stuff like that is remembered. My Geography teacher did it once too. Mr. Whitaker said, “Would you lay off him” which is also something I remember because teachers used to just let it happen.

He was smart enough to see past Steven Cardwell

In an English Lit class, Mr. Radford said something about John Wayne, and for some reason I said, “Take it away pilgrim” in a normal volume but as a John Wayne impression. Steven Cardwell did a gasp and an “aww” as if I had said something very offensive. Usually, this made the teacher holler at whoever spoke with the assumption that Steven’s reaction was warranted. Mr. Radford didn’t fall for it. He just asked what I said and said no more about it. I had watched countless other kids get in trouble because of Steven, but Mr. Radford didn’t fall for it.

He taught me how to think.

The “world is flat” lesson really got to me. It is the first time I started to question what I am supposed to “know” and what is supposedly true. He taught me to think so that even in the later years when he was teaching English, I could see past the text interpret it in a multitude of logical ways.

She teaches us Maths, the subject I fear the most. I used to be extremely scared of it because I always failed to solve those tough problems. But my class teacher is so kind to me that she helps me daily to get rid of my fears in Maths. She teaches me the sums in the easiest way and also inspires me to practice more.

She speaks sweetly and is adorable. The best part of my teacher is that she never scolds me when I get a sum incorrect. With lots of patience, she points out the wrong and corrects me. For her, I am confident in solving all the sums in the book. I am grateful to her for the unconditional support she has given me. 

From the Vedic ages, the significance of a guru is specified as someone who will guide his disciples towards the light of true knowledge He will teach them both right and wrong and also mentor them to take correct decisions in their lives. A guru is the assimilation of the Trinity, The Brahma, the Vishnu, and the Maheshwar.

He is aware of everything and is capable of leading his disciples from ignorance to complete knowledge of the self and the world. Today the notion of a gurukul has changed and been replaced by well-made classrooms. The teacher today represents the early guru who plays that same task of giving his students the best education and correct knowledge. 

For me, being a teacher is one of the greatest blessings on earth. Because God cannot be everywhere, so he has created teachers as their replicas. I myself aspire to be a teacher one day so that I can serve the children with my wisdom and knowledge. Teachers enable their students to rise higher in their lives fearlessly and be confident in their approach. To me, my parents are my greatest teachers. They have given me the best knowledge of my life and have taught me to choose good over bad.

Life is quite vast and my parents help me daily to fight through all odds. They not only just feed me and educate me in a good school, but also teach me the proper manners and behaviour in life. They help me to aspire for a greater and happier life in the future. Several things happen in my life as a young person. I go through several emotions that I cannot myself understand totally.

I easily disclose it to my parents and they show me the way out of the confusion. My parents do not create unnecessary rules over me and stop me from enjoying my life. They always keep faith in me and their teachings make me humble. I can never think of hurting them because that will destroy their goodwill over me. Parents are the first and the foremost teachers in our lives. We learn the earliest knowledge of respect and obedience from them. 

In our schools, we come across many subject teachers who give us institutional knowledge. They are important because they give us a picture of the professional world. Yet the first knowledge of the alphabet, and the first speech happens at home. Home is the place from where a good character is born. Hence, for me, my favourite teachers are my parents.

A High School English Teacher Reviews FX’s New Show English Teacher

The show raises an important point about how we portray teachers in the media.

About 10 minutes into the first episode of FX’s new show English Teacher , a childhood memory came rushing back … 

I’m 8 years old, and we’re watching E.R. as a family. Something happens on the screen—a gurney comes rushing through as people in white lab coats yell—and amid all this drama, I hear my dad, who spent part of his medical residency in an emergency room, groan loudly, “No, you can’t do that !” While my dad knows this is all entertainment, they hit a nerve so close to his real-life experience that it was temporarily hard for him to suspend disbelief.

This is the distinct feeling I had around 10 minutes into the pilot of English Teacher .

The series features Brian Jordan Alvarez as Evan Marquez, a high school English teacher in Austin, Texas. Evan faces the same daily juggling act many of us do: trying to get kids to talk about “unreliable narrators” in a world shaded with fake news and polarized worldviews while managing hot-button topics with young people as they figure out their place in the world. Oh, and someone needs to plan homecoming. 

While at first glance, the show’s premise is easy to compare to ABC’s Abbott Elementary , a show beloved by many teachers, English Teacher knows it is on a different network (FX shows tend to be more forthright with cursing and sexual imagery) and considers the teaching profession with a very different lens. 

The pilot’s opening conflict centers on a kiss Evan shared with his then-boyfriend and then-fellow teacher Malcolm. A parent complains about the kiss—described at one point as a “peck”—and Evan calls out the seemingly blatant homophobia at play.

Then, in a flashback of the kiss, we learn that it was much more than a peck. It actually included Malcolm grabbing Evan’s backside … in front of a room full of students. It’s an action that, when done in front of kids, I’d argue is incredibly inappropriate, regardless of gender or orientation.

And this is where, like my father, I wanted to yell at the screen, “Oh, Evan, you can’t do that !” 

I sat with this moment, trying to figure out why I had struggled. It is fiction, after all. Then, I realized that I had come to the show with unmatched expectations. As most of my adult life has been as a real-life English teacher, I, perhaps unfairly, wanted the “English teacher” on TV to be one we could categorically root for. I wanted a character who showed the most noble side of our struggles. 

English Teacher , though, understands that noble portrayals of educators may not be entertaining. Instead, it uses the premise to explore nuanced questions about navigating adulthood in a space inundated with adolescent growing pains. In doing so, the show repeatedly goes in a direction you don’t expect. English Teacher navigates romantic strife, existential dread about the importance of our work, LGBTQ+ issues, and even the occasional slapstick moment (Evan’s open-palm football smack as he hurries across the field made me audibly laugh) in unexpected and, often, very funny ways. The show, in its first three episodes, is less concerned about how teachers shape young minds and more about how bringing together people with this diversity of experiences, values, and age plays out in interesting, often awkward, occasionally tense, and sometimes revelatory ways.  

The show raises an interesting question: What, if any, obligation does a piece have to the subjects it portrays?

Several teachers I spoke with found the show very funny, though there are those who feel that, in reaching for a punchline, the show is a caricature of their daily struggles that doesn’t quite grasp the deep sense of care, heartbreak, and joy found in our profession. In a world where educators already feel devalued, does English Teacher ’s flawed main teacher make it even harder to root for teachers overall? 

Yet, English Teacher also raises an important point about how we portray teachers in the media overall: They are often either noble, earnest, and endlessly giving, or they are problematic has-beens who abuse their power. English Teacher considers what it means to show a wider range of a teacher’s humanity, as the protagonist refuses both extreme portrayals; instead, Evan is a guy struggling with all the nuanced and complex situations adults face, like being attracted to your coworker or forging occasionally uncomfortable friendships with people you sometimes see more than your own family. He just has to deal with those issues while also trying to get kids to care about Love in the Time of Cholera— no matter how triggering—and help the football players prepare for the Powderpuff Game.  ADVERTISEMENT

If you watch this show hoping for a teacher-hero you can stand behind categorically, that is not Evan. Evan believes himself to be deeply principled, but he is not a faultless teacher. As an educator, he makes bad choices (please background-check your friends before inviting them into your school). He also, though, clearly cares deeply about his students, from his book club to his honest desire to support them. Evan is not always noble, and he is definitely not perfect, but I’m still rooting for him, and I’m rooting for English Teacher as well.
