Prerequisites

There are no formal requirements for this program. However, it is highly recommended that students have at least three years of business experience.

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum consists of a minimum of 2 courses (one required course and a minimum of 2 semester units of electives) for a total of 4 semester units (60 hours of instruction). Candidates must pay a nonrefundable program registration fee.

You must take all courses for a letter grade. To receive the Award of Completion, you must complete each course with with a grade of C or better (no C-minus grades). All coursework must be completed within three years.

How to Register

By registering, you declare your intention to complete the curriculum. To register online for the Professional Program in Business Process Management, complete these two steps:

• Submit the online registration , and complete your student account profile if you are a new student.
• Pay the nonrefundable registration fee through your shopping cart. Please allow 3–5 business days for the registration to appear in your student account.

You should register for the program before you complete your first course in the curriculum.

Estimated Cost

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The program has an estimated cost of $2,180 (not including course materials and registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.

Certificate and Award Request

Once you have completed the program coursework, notify UC Berkeley Extension that you have completed the curriculum and request your Award of Completion. Send an email to [email protected] . After your records have been reviewed, verified and approved (usually within two to three weeks), your Award of Completion will be mailed to you.

Online passport renewal now more widely available, State Department says

Online passport renewal has officially become more widely available to Americans.

That comes after the State Department said Wednesday that it completed the full roll-out of the new online passport renewal system it has been developing. 

The department touted it as a "secure process that will save time and effort" for eligible Americans seeking routine renewal of their passports.

Online applicants must be at least 25 years old, reside in the U.S. and be looking to renew a passport that needs no biographical information changes and was issued during a certain timeframe, among other requirements, according to the State Department.

The process involves filling out an application online with details about the applicant’s most recent passport and travel plans . The person must also provide a digital photo.

The State Department will also give people renewing their passports online the option to get emailed updates about their applications.

"We will notify you when your application is in process, approved, and when we send your passport," the department said on its website. "We will also notify you if we need more information to process your application."

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the department was "embracing digital transformation to offer the most efficient and convenient renewal experience possible" with the full launch of its online passport renewal service.

The State Department had previously rolled out an updated beta version of the system in mid-June. At the time, its website had indicated the testing would help "prepare for a full launch of the updated online passport renewal system" in the future.

Prior to that, there had been an earlier trial of online passport renewal in 2022.

People who do not qualify for online renewal service, such as those needing a new special issuance passport, who live overseas or require expedited processing , can renew their passports via mail and in person.

The State Department’s website said routine online passport renewals and mailed renewals both take six to eight weeks to process.

"Thanks to increased staffing, technological advancements , and a host of other improvements, the average routine passport is being processed today in roughly one-third the time as at the same point last summer, and well under the advertised six to eight weeks processing times," Blinken said in a statement.

Processing times for expedited renewals stand at two to three weeks.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans can now renew their passports online, bypassing a cumbersome mail-in paper application process that often caused delays.

The State Department announced Wednesday that its online renewal system is now fully operational, after testing in pilot programs, and available to adult passport holders whose passport has expired within the past five years or will expire in the coming year. It is not available for the renewal of children’s passports, for first-time passport applicants for renewal applicants who live outside the United States or for expedited applications.

“By offering this online alternative to the traditional paper application process, the Department is embracing digital transformation to offer the most efficient and convenient passport renewal experience possible,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

The department said it estimated that about 5 million Americans would be able to use this service a year. In 2023, it processed 24 million passports, about 40% of which were renewals.

After staffing shortages caused mainly by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in lengthy passport processing delays , the department ramped up hiring and introduced other technological improvements that have reduced wait times by about one-third over last year. It says most applications are now completed in far less than the advertised six weeks to eight weeks and the online renewal system is expected to further reduce that.

The system will allow renewal applicants to skip the current process, which requires them to print out and send paper applications, photos and a check by mail, and submit their documents, photo, and payment through a secure website, www.Travel.State.Gov/renewonline .

There will be no change to the existing passport processing fees, which are currently $130 for a regular renewal.

Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Rena Bitter, whose bureau oversees passport processing said the department hoped to expand the program in the coming years to possibly include Americans living abroad, those seeking to renew a second passport and children’s passports.

“This is not going to be the last thing that we do,” she told reporters. “We want to see how this goes and then we’ll start looking at ways to continue to make this service available to more American citizens in the coming months and years.”
