About Statutory Bodies and Committees

Board of studies (bos).

BoS is a statutory body for each department/centre, primarily responsible for syllabus design and regular update. As described in the Ordinance section 25.10,

• To recommend to the School Board, courses of studies offered by the Department/Centre and continue updating syllabus;
• To take all steps in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations about teaching and evaluation of various courses/programmes of the Department/Centre;
• To recommend to the School Board measures for the improvement of teaching and research in the Department/Centre;
• To constitute panels of experts to be considered for appointment as Examiners, Board of Examiners for various courses/academic programmes and M.Phil./Ph.D. thesis representing various specializations of Departments/Centres; and
• To perform such other functions as may be assigned to it by the School Board, the Academic Council, the Executive Council and the Vice-Chancellor.

Department Committee (DC)

As enshrined in the Ordinace-26, the Department/Centre Committee (DC/CC) shall consist of the Head of the Department/Centre, as Chairperson ex-officio, and all faculty members of the Department/Centre.

• To make proposals to the Board of Studies on academic programmes concerning teaching and research, and the creation, specialization and abolition of teaching posts;
• To propose schemes for the maintenance and improvement of the standards of various programmes of study and research of the Department/Centre;
• To apportion the teaching and co-curricular work of the Department/Centre among the teachers thereof and monitor the proper execution thereof;
• To consider and decide on the assignment and utilisation of the space, equipment and other assets of the Department/Centre and other matters of general and academic interest of the Department/Centre;
• To consider and recommend perspectives and major thrust areas for research and to propose research projects to be taken up by the members of the Department/Centre, individually/collectively;
• To review and apprise the SRC/URC with the current status of research in Department/Centre;
• To suggest to SRC/URC norms related to qualifications and research experience of a faculty to be recognized as a research degree supervisor and to constitute Department/Centre Research Degree Committee (DRC/CRC);
• To suggest to University Admission, Teaching and Evaluation Committee (UATEC) on any issue related to admission, teaching, continuous evaluation in courses and students’ assessment of courses, offered by the Department/Centre to improve quality of education.
• To constitute such Committee(s) comprising members of the Department/Centre, and if necessary external experts, for framing and implementation of rules and regulations related to admission, teaching, continuous evaluation, maintenance of students’ records including alumni affairs as well as promotion of research and development; and
• To perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Ordinances or Regulations, or by the Vice- Chancellor/Dean/School Board from time to time.

Department Research Degree Committee (DRDC)

Departmental/Centre Research Degree Committee (DRDC/CRDC) deal with all matters connected with the Ph.D. Programme of the Department and report the matter to the University Research Degree Committee (URDC), as per University Ordinance-33. It consists of the Head of Department/Centre as Chairman and other faculties in the department.

• Allotment of Supervisor, Co-Supervisor, recording reasons for not admitting a candidate.
• Recommendation for extension of time for submission of thesis
• Recommendation to peruse a part of research outside the University
• Approval of the Course Work
• Assessment and Grading in Course Work
• Monitoring the research progress of the candidate
• Approval of Research plan proposal/language
• Sanction of duty leave to the Ph.D. candidate
• Assessment of Ph.D. work through pre-submission seminar
• Maintaining the record of research paper publications of the candidate
• 11 Recommendation of panel of experts for thesis evaluation
• Assessment of revised thesis for satisfactory compliance, if any
• Arrangement of Viva-voce in the absence of the supervisor
• Recommendation to waive the Viva-voce

Research Advisory Committee (RAC)

A Research Advisory Committee (RAC) is constituted for every research scholar admitted in PhD programme. The Committee would guide the research scholar to develop the study design and methodology of research and to To periodically review and assist in the progress of the research work of the research scholar. The committee shall have also have power to recommend the co-supervisor and cancellation of registration

We aim to become the premier computer science department in terms of teaching, learning, and research. The department aims to provide the country capable and efficient workforce that may take on and overcome various technical challenges and hindrances faced by our country.

• To develop and train students to make them professionals who are able to learn and compete in the recent trends of the computer science
• The departments promote faculties and students to attend the various seminars, conferences, and FDPs/STPs to provide them exposure to the various ongoing developments and challenges in the area of computer science.
• To provide technical knowledge related to computer science to the students and faculties from other departments of the university

M.Sc. Computer Science

• Objectives of the Program:

The two-year (four semesters) Post Graduate programme lays emphasis on the theoretical concepts as well as on practical experience and industry interaction. The exercises/assignments/projects given to them help the students to become an independent quality professional and researcher. The programme has the following salient features:

• Designed to take students through rigorous ground-work for taking up research or coming out industry ready.
• Sound foundation in the fundamentals of Computing, Mathematical and Statistical sciences.
• Rich (open) elective course basket providing plenty of space for interdisciplinarity required by several emerging areas.
• Program Outcomes:
• After completing the programme, the students would become confident in taking challenging projects independently and as a team member.
• They would be familiar with recent technologies such as machine learning, big data, object-oriented programming.
• Students would become familiar with recent developments in different domains in computer science.
• Eligibility:

Bachelor's Degree from any recognised University in Science (CS/IT/Electronics with Mathematics) / BCA with a minimum of 55% marks for General /OBC candidates and 50% marks for SC/ST / PWD candidates and having Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 level.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The PhD programme in Computer Science is planned to meet the needs of industry as well as research and academics. The PhD programme lets students explore their research and development skills along with PhD coursework. The Course design of PhD in Computer Science incorporates coursework on research methodology and recent research tools and techniques. The PhD programme trains the students for industry jobs as well as motivates them to take up research as a career in Computer Science. Workshop and expert lectures are conducted to enhance the research skills as well as soft skills of the students.

• The students would develop the skill of formulating and conducting original research for significant questions in the field of computer science.
• They would understand the existing research literature and its limitations.
• They would have in-depth knowledge of research methodology, their particular research areas and research tools.
• They would follow ethical standards in research.
• They would be able to teach computer science at postgraduate level with maintaining an ethical standard in teaching.
• They would develop an interdisciplinary approach in the research.

Master's Degree in Computer Science /MCA/Equivalent with a minimum of 55 % in aggregate or its equivalent Grade B in UGC 7-point scale from any recognised University. A Relaxation of 5% of marks from 55 to 50% or equivalent relaxation of Grade for SC/ST//Differently abled candidates.

BRABU PhD Admission 2024: Last date, Eligibility, Fee

BRABU PhD Admission 2024-25 : Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University will soon start the online registration for PhD entrance test (PAT 2024). BRABU PhD Admission 2024-25 last date is  31 July 2024 (Tentative) to complete the counselling process. Candidates willing to opt for admission to the PhD programme can register by visiting the official website @brabu.ac.in of the university before the last date. Admission to the PhD degree programme will done based on the marks scored in the entrance examination conducted by the university. To be eligible to enroll in this doctoral or research programme, A student must have a bachelor's and master's degree in a relevant stream with 50% marks.

BRABU PhD Admission 2024-25 Last Date

Eligibility Criteria for BRABU PhD Admission 2024

BRABU PhD admission requires students to complete the minimum eligibility criteria that the university announces as mandatory for the students. The students who will complete the criteria will only be able to get admission to the course:

• The applicant should have completed their master's level study from a recognized institution.
• In the master's study, the applicant needed to have scored a minimum of 55% score.
• The entrance exam that the university conducts for admission will need to be passed by the applicant.

BRABU Entrance Exam 2024

BRABU Conducts an entrance examination known as (PAT) for selected candidates for PhD programmes under various specializations. The registration process for the entrance exam at BRABU will open very soon for the 2024-25 academic session, and the last date to apply is expected to be 31 July 2024. It is expected that the BRABU PhD entrance exam will be conducted in August 2024. The entrance test is administered by the university itself in offline mode. Students who completed the registration process and downloaded the admit card are allowed to sit in the exam.

PhD in Computer Science enables students to become experts in a technical subfield of computer science and advance the state of the art by contributing original research in that discipline. Most PhD students also gain practical experience in the classroom, as well as become visible members of the research community by publishing research and through oral presentations at conferences and research seminars. Upon completing the PhD program, students are able to set their own research direction, teach and advise students, and work at the forefront of cutting-edge research in academia or at an industrial laboratory.

The Doctor of Computer Science & Engineering degree program has been designed to help the research scholars to gain an in-depth understanding of a specialized subject related to computer science. This would allow them to predict developments and make contributions in area of expertise. PhD can take the research scholar much further afield of the classic image of a student working away in the lab, or sitting with a pile of books in the library. One may find oneself visiting archives or facilities to examine their data or look at rare source materials. One could even have the opportunity to spend an extended period at a research centre or other institution beyond one’s university. The Ph.D degree programme prepares the candidates for senior level leadership, consulting, and teaching positions within business, government, non-profit organizations, and higher education. As a Masters of Computer Engineering student with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, you’ll be working on hardware, software and networking systems for the computers of today and tomorrow. For Admission to the Graduate Program

• A Baccalaureate degree in a technical field  * (e.g., Engineering, Physics or Mathematics from an accredited university or college) with an overall GPA of at least  2.75 .
• Have at least a  2.7  undergraduate grade point average in the last sixty semester units or ninety quarter units attempted.
• International students are required to submit a brief statement of purpose and  3  letters of recommendations.

*Regardless of undergraduate degree, all students must fulfill with a 3.0 GPA or higher.*

Prerequisite Courses

** The ECE Graduate Coordinator will determine which course(s) will be required.

For Advancement to Classified Graduate Status

• Fulfill University requirements for classified status.
• Complete prerequisite courses with 3.0 GPA or higher.
• Submit a tentative program of graduate study approved by the ECE graduate coordinator.
• Minimum grade in any course taken must be "C" or better while maintaining an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

For the Degree:

• Completion of 30 units under either the  Thesis Plan  or the  Project Plan .  Note:  Students may not take a course (counting toward an MSEE degree) which is the same or equivalent to a course taken toward ones undergraduate program.
• Formal approval of granting the degree by the Engineering Faculty.

Thesis Plan:

• 24 units of course work applicable to the M.S. degree, of which at least 15 units must be 500/600-level ECE courses. Select a minimum of 12 units of Electrical and Computer Engineering courses and a minimum of 6 units of Computer Science courses plus 6 units selected from Electrical and Computer Engineering or Computer Science courses.
• 6 units of ECE 698(Thesis) and a successful oral defense of the thesis before the thesis committee.

Project Plan:

• 27 units of coursework applicable to the M.S. degree, of which at least 18 units must be 500/600-level ECE courses. Select a minimum of 12 units of Electrical and Computer Engineering courses and a minimum of 6 units of Computer Science courses plus 9 units selected from Electrical and Computer Engineering or Computer Science courses.
• 3 units of ECE 698 (Graduate Project) culminating in a comprehensive report.

Graduate Program:

The 30 units of coursework in the graduate program must form a cohesive plan of graduate study that consists of suggested and courses from Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science. The 30 units may include one graded unit of ECE 699A (Internship) as an elective course. Any additional enrollment in ECE 699A can only be taken on a Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) basis and will not be included in the 30 units required for the degree.

Admission Procedure and University Rules

Application forms can be accessed through  Cal State Apply  and are submitted online. The code number for the MSCompE is  562445M . Application deadlines for admission are set by the Office of Admissions .

All applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English must receive a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based, 213 on the computer-based or 79/80 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a score of 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Besides TOEFL and IELTS, CSUN currently accept other tests such as Duolingo. All acceptable English language tests and minimum scores are listed on the  International Prospective Students  page.

Continuing students in either Post Baccalaureate or Graduate status may change their objective and seek admission to a MS in Computer Engineering by filling out a change of objective form that can be obtained from the Office of Admissions and Records.

It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of all University regulations and restrictions such as:

• No more than 9 units of transfer or extension work
• No more than a total of 9 units of ECE 400-level Digital course and/or Comp 400-level courses taken in residence can be counted toward Master in Computer Engineering
• Probation and Disqualification
• Repeat of courses rules

• 7-years time limit for the completion of the degree
• Graduation with Distinction

For details on the above, students are advised to attend one of the ECE graduate orientation meetings to meet with the Graduate Coordinator. Prior to the formation of their Graduate Committee, graduate students are advised by the Graduate Coordinator. After the formation of their Graduate Committee, graduate students are advised by their Committee Chair. All courses taken towards the MS degree must be approved by the Committee Chair and the Graduate Coordinator. 

Required Courses (30 units)

For this degree, the student must define a program that conforms to the general M.S. in Computer Engineering degree requirements as established by the Department.

Students are advised to meet with an advisor as soon as possible to plan their program. No more than a total of 9 units of ECE 400-level Digital courses and/or Comp 400-level courses taken in residence can be counted toward Master in Computer Engineering.

Students may not take a course (counting toward MSCompE degree) which is the same or equivalent to a course taken toward one’s undergraduate program.

Students must select a minimum of 14 units of 500 or 600-level required Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) courses listed below:

• ECE 520/L System on Chip Design and Laboratory (3/1)
• ECE 524/L FPGA/ASIC Design and Optimization Using VHDL and Lab (3/1)  or  ECE 526/L Digital Design with Verilog and System Verilog and Lab (3/1)
• ECE 620 Advanced Switching Theory (3)
• ECE 621 Computer Arithmetic Design (3)  or ECE 622 Digital Systems Structure (3)

and a minimum of 6 units of 500 or 600-level Computer Science (COMP) elective courses in the following list:

• COMP 522 Embedded Applications (3)
• COMP 528 Mobile Computing (3)
• COMP 528L Mobile Computing Lab (1)
• COMP 529/L Advanced Network Topics and Lab (2/1)
• COMP 541 Data Mining (3)
• COMP 542 Machine Learning (3)

If students choose to do the Graduate Project (3 units of  ECE 698C ), the remaining 7 units must either be from Electrical Engineering or Computer Science courses.

If students choose to do the Thesis (6 units of  ECE 698C ), the remaining 4 units must be either from Electrical Engineering or Computer Science courses.

All graduate programs in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering must be approved by the faculty advisor and the Graduate Coordinator.

Candidates must have passed their M.Phil or equivalent level examination from a recognized state/private/deemed or central university with at least 55% marks (45% to 50% for reserved category candidates) in the respective domain of study.

• Students shall not be having any backlog or compartment in any of the subjects at M.Phil or equivalent level that is yet to be cleared at the time of taking admission.
• In the case of reserved category students, they would have to present their reservation certificates issued by the competent authorities to avail the benefits applicable to them.

Life is pretty good here. We conduct 4-5 events yearly for students interaction with both the seniors and the alumni. And these events vary, like technical events- Annual festival and hackathons to non tenchnical events like- skits, diwali party, fresher's, farewell, holi party, DJ nights. Recently we went on a trek also. Overall, life is happening here and the environment is good for overall personality development of an individual.

I think the syllabus is updated and up to the mark, professors are quite good and experts in their respective fields. In terms of practical knowledge and infrastructure- like machines, servers- I think we should do better, being computer science department. Prof. Neelima gupta is the chair person right now, I ma working under her. I think she is doing wonderful job and we will see department doing better in coming 1 or 2 year.

Amazing college

The college was beautifully constructed and had students coming from different backgrounds and cultures. They all were friendly to each other and had a good environment at the college. Activities like sports, music, dance, theatre were conducted by various student firms and we all could participate.

The jobs are available at the campus where well-known organisations and companies also came to interview. We could also apply to the college?s campus as a teacher, Dell, Intel came to interview. Almost all of the students got placed with an average package of Rs.15 lakhs Per annum.

My experiences in NITTTR

The course curriculum is pretty chilled out. The class is more student focused and works towards creating an environment that students use for knowledge rather than just knowing a lot of things. The curriculum also prepares students for anything in the industry.

Students are required to participate in various activities and workshops. On top of that students are allowed to work part-time as consultants to outside companies. There are many sports activities the students can participate in if they are interested.

The faculty of my course and others were brilliantly intelligent and considerate. They would know when to rush to complete the portion and when to keep us stress-free. They never put burden on us. They would always say that a clear mind could do better than a stressed one.

Job placements were pretty easy after this course was completed in any industry or educational institution for almost all of us, because we already had atleast one year experience of teaching/working in industry. This was a beneficial add-on training.

It is up to an individual as to how he/she can use these resource (here Faculties) and to what extent. One thing I can say is that, especially in an IIT, every individual Faculty or Student wants to stand out, be that special one. It is only in the hands of each one as to how far you make the effort to work everything out.

Getting into PhD in IIT Indore requires a written exam (after your name is on the eligible list), followed by 1-3 face-to-face interviews (depending on your luck I guess) on the same day most of the time. When they are satisfied by your credentials and previous work done, they let you know in a couple of weeks if you are selected. The same is listed on the college website, so you know if you have been rejected.
