Can SafeAssign or Turnitin Detect Paraphrasing Tools like Quillbot?

Detecting Paraphrasing Tools like Quillbot

In academic writing, paraphrasing is a very useful skill that students and other researchers should possess because it demonstrates their prowess in research and allows them to avoid plagiarism.

Since paraphrasing is very important within the academic context, there are online tools that have been developed to automate the paraphrasing process. Quillbot is one of the online paraphrasing tools that use artificial intelligence (AI) to rewrite texts, sentences, and entire paragraphs while retaining the original meaning.

The use of Quillbot among students is usually not entertained within academic contexts because it is regarded as unethical.  That is why institutions may require students to submit their work through tools like SafeAssign or Turnitin to ensure that the submitted work is original and has been ethically done.

Can SafeAssign Detect Quillbot?

Creating SafeAssign Account

Though SafeAssign can easily detect plagiarism because it compares the submitted work against documents that are available in its database , it is difficult for it to detect whether the paraphrased text has been done by Quillbot.

SafeAssign detects verbatim plagiarism whereby it compares the similarity of the submitted text to existing documents word-for-word. Quillbot, on the other hand, paraphrases using AI, meaning that it cannot be detected.

As long as SafeAssign lacks the capability of detecting AI-generated content, it will not detect Quillbot.

Can Turnitin Detect Quillbot?

Yes. Turnitin can detect Quillbot. You may be wondering how this is the case because we have just discussed that SafeAssign cannot detect it. Well, the best response to that is AI detection capability.

While SafeAssign may lack the capacity to detect content that has been generated or paraphrased by AI, Turnitin has that capacity. Therefore, if you as a student use Quillbot to paraphrase original text and you submit the paraphrased work as your own through Turnitin, your work will be flagged as plagiarized.

It will be a form of plagiarism whereby your work will have a certain percentage of AI content. The AI content is the paraphrased text.

How SafeAssign and Turnitin Detect Paraphrasing Tools

As noted, SafeAssign has not yet been able to detect text that has been generated by Quillbot. However, Turnitin can detect any AI-generated content such as paraphrased content.

Though the particular details of how Turnitin’s algorithms work to detect paraphrased or plagiarized content have not been publicly disclosed, it uses a few techniques to flag content that has been paraphrased. The techniques include:

1. Text Comparison

As aforementioned, the tool compared the submitted work against a database of existing documents, in addition to previously submitted essays and research papers.  It scans for similarities in phrasing, sentence structures, and content to determine the level of similarity.

2. Originality Reports

safeassign report

When you use Turnitin, it produces an Originality Report highlighting any unoriginal or matching text within the submitted document.  There is also a similarity index that shows the percentage of matching content with outside sources.

If the tool detects a significant amount of similarity or matches, it is flagged as plagiarized even though paraphrasing tools like Quillbot were used.

3. Paraphrase Detection

Turnitin uses advanced algorithms aided by AI to evaluate word choice, contextual meaning, and sentence structure.  This helps the tool detect any instance of paraphrasing. It can detect the patterns that hint at the utilization of automated paraphrasing tools such as Quillbot.

4. Database Expansion

This tool constantly expands its database by indexing new sources like online content and websites.  By doing so, it enhances its ability to identify content that has been generated by paraphrasing tools such as Quillbot.

Reasons not to use Quillbot for Academic Reasons

It is plagiarism.

The use of Quillbot is academically considered plagiarism even when the paraphrased content has not been flagged by plagiarism-detecting tools.  When the paraphrased content that has been generated by Quillbot is detected by advanced tools such as Turnitin, then there is evidence of plagiarism.

If there is evidence of plagiarism within the academic context, the student is liable to face academic disciplinary actions such as failing the course or being suspended.

Lack of Contextual Understanding

Though Quillbot can paraphrase the text, it does not completely understand the nuances and context of the original text. This leads to a loss of meaning and the production of irrelevant content.

Overreliance on Technology

When students use Quillbot as a substitute for personal effort, it creates an overreliance on technology.  It thwarts their academic growth because they are not personally engaging with the subject matter or conducting research.

Additionally, they are not developing their writing skills that can be fostered through attempting to paraphrase original work by themselves. This limits their critical thinking and analysis skills.

How Plagiarism Scanners can Improve Paraphrasing Detecting

stop plagiarism

Adding AI Detectors in their System

This is one of the best solutions to improve paraphrasing detection. Quillbot uses AI to paraphrase text. As such, the content is AI-generated.

Therefore, if plagiarism scanners include AI detectors in their system, they will detect such paraphrased content because it has been generated through AI.

Working Together with AI Detectors

Another way to improve paraphrasing detection is to work together with AI detectors.  This can be in the form of partnerships whereby companies offering plagiarism-detection tools work together with companies that can detect AI.

Teachers to be Trained on Paraphrasing Tools

Teachers and other educators should be trained in paraphrasing tools. They should be aware that students are using such tools to cheat in their essays and papers. This will force teachers to require their students to submit their papers through plagiarism and AI-detecting tools such as Turnitin.

Doing Further Research

Plagiarism scanners should also do further research to find ways of beating paraphrasing tools like Quillbot.  This is because such tools use AI; meaning that they are learning and becoming sophisticated with time.

To conclude this article, though there are online paraphrasing tools such as Quillbot that can rewrite existing work, it is considered academically unethical to use them because it is plagiarism.  Additionally, some plagiarism-detecting tools like Turnitin can flag such content.

Therefore, if you don’t have a genuine reason to use tools like Quillbot, it is good to paraphrase your work to build personal writing skills and knowledge.

What Is QuillBot And How Does It Work?

QuillBot is a revolutionary digital tool powered by artificial intelligence, designed to rephrase any text in a multitude of ways while preserving the original intent and meaning.

QuillBot has found applications across various industries and professions, proving its utility in simplifying complex sentences, avoiding plagiarism, and improving overall language structure.

The tool’s uniqueness is encapsulated in its suite of distinct features and benefits. It offers various customization options to cater to the specific needs of its users. For instance, users can opt for different modes depending on the desired outcome.

The modes include Standard, Simple, Formal, Creative, Expand, Shorten, and Custom . Each of these modes caters to a specific type of text transformation.

The ‘Expand’ mode increases sentence length, whereas the ‘Shorten’ mode accomplishes the opposite. The ‘Creative’ mode, on the other hand, adds a flair of originality to the text.

The underlying technology that powers QuillBot involves advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, including natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning.

The tool employs NLP to understand the context and semantics of the input text. It then utilizes machine learning algorithms to generate synonyms, rewrite sentences, and modify the text’s structure and style, resulting in a refined output that maintains the same core meaning.

Integrating QuillBot into your writing process offers several handy options. The tool can be added as an extension on browsers, integrated into MS Word, or used directly on its website. This seamless integration adds a layer of accessibility and convenience for its users

What Is SafeAssign And How Does It Work?

SafeAssign is a valuable tool designed to prevent plagiarism . It’s used by instructors to check the originality of homework submissions. This tool provides a robust solution to uphold academic integrity and encourage original work among students .

SafeAssign is easy to use and fits into the existing workflows of most learning management systems. It doesn’t require extra steps to use – instructors simply have to enable it for their assignments. Once enabled, it automatically checks every submission .

SafeAssign has a vast database, including other assignment submissions, academic papers, and a wide range of web sources. This extensive library allows it to thoroughly cross-reference submissions to ensure originality.

One unique feature is the inline match comparison. When a submitted assignment is checked, this feature directly highlights any matching sections within the text, along with their sources. This makes it easy for instructors to see exactly where any duplicated content might be coming from.

The way SafeAssign works is pretty straightforward. When a student submits their homework, the tool compares the text against its vast database. It’s searching for any matches, or content that appears to be too similar to other sources.

SafeAssign doesn’t just stop at identifying the matches. It goes one step further by creating an originality report. This report provides detailed information about any matches found.

For example, if a student submits a paper on “The Impact of Climate Change,” and a section matches an online article, SafeAssign will highlight that section . It will also provide a link to the article and indicate the percentage of the match .

This detailed report is beneficial for instructors. It helps them determine if the match is a properly cited reference or an instance of plagiarism. For students, these reports can also serve as a learning tool to understand better citation practices and the importance of original work.

Situations In Which SafeAssign Can Detect QuillBot

SafeAssign, a powerful plagiarism detection tool, can identify potential plagiarism even when the text has been paraphrased by tools like QuillBot. Here are some instances where this can happen:

One situation arises when a QuillBot paraphrase doesn’t significantly change the original source. For instance, if the original sentence is “Climate change is a serious challenge we all are facing” and QuillBot paraphrases it to “Climate is a serious issue we all are facing,” SafeAssign could flag this as potential plagiarism because of the high similarity between the two sentences.

SafeAssign can also detect plagiarism when a paraphrase doesn’t appropriately cite or acknowledge its source.

Let’s say a student uses an excerpt from a book in their paper, paraphrases it using QuillBot, but doesn’t include a citation. SafeAssign, when comparing this paper to its extensive database of academic papers, other assignments, and internet sources, will likely spot the similarity and raise a flag.

The tool’s ability to detect identical or too-similar terms and structures within an assignment makes it highly efficient at identifying instances of plagiarism. It checks for overlaps of texts, matching the submitted file against loads of other papers.

Missing citations, whether by accident or on purpose, is a serious red flag for SafeAssign. If a document uses data or material from another source without proper citation, even after using a paraphrasing tool, SafeAssign is likely to catch it.

So, even if you’re using a paraphrasing tool like QuillBot, remember to make significant changes and always cite your sources. Otherwise, you risk triggering SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection mechanisms.

Situations In Which QuillBot Can’t Detect Safeassign

QuillBot, an advanced AI-based paraphrasing tool, can prove challenging for plagiarism detectors like SafeAssign under certain circumstances.

One of these situations arises when the paraphrase diverges substantially from the original source. By transforming most of the words and the structure, QuillBot can create a piece of writing that maintains the original’s meaning, yet appears distinct.

When the language and syntax are substantially altered, SafeAssign may fail to recognize the text as potentially plagiarized from the source.

Another scenario revolves around the use of suitable and natural synonyms. A primary function of QuillBot is the ability to replace words in the text with appropriate synonyms that still fit the context.

When executed correctly, this strategy can yield a rewritten text that doesn’t raise any flags in SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection algorithms. The revised text retains the same message as the original but does it in a unique way that the software may not link back to the source.

Finally, the issue of correct citation comes into play. When the paraphrase includes accurate acknowledgments of the source, it can be challenging for SafeAssign to mark the content as plagiarized. This is because the tool typically categorizes properly cited material as non-plagiarized.

Even if the rest of the text is a QuillBot-facilitated rewrite of the source material, SafeAssign may not be able to flag it due to the correct citation practices followed.

Speaking of content detection, if Blackboard software is used in your academics, then you might also find this guide helpful: Can Blackboard Detect AI?

Tips On Writing Unique And Plagiarism-Free Content

Firstly, express your thoughts in your own words and voice. It’s the most natural way to ensure originality. Your voice, shaped by your unique experiences and perspectives, can’t be replicated. It’s like a fingerprint for your writing. So, avoid copying others’ work as it is and let your thoughts flow naturally on paper.

Taking notes while reading is another useful strategy. As you peruse different resources, jot down key points or ideas, then use these notes to create your unique content. By assimilating information and summarizing it in your own words, you reduce the chance of unintentional plagiarism and enhance your comprehension of the topic.

A third tip is to always credit your sources. Whether you’re directly quoting or paraphrasing, citing the original work is crucial. It acknowledges the author’s work and provides transparency. Also, it can save your content from being flagged as plagiarized.

The fourth suggestion is to invest time in research. The more you read and understand about a topic, the more comfortable you will be to discuss it from your perspective. It’s a key step to creating unique content as it prevents you from merely repeating what one or two sources have said.

Finally, use plagiarism detection tools before finally submitting your assignment. The plagiarism detection tools can help you identify any sections of your writing that may be too similar to existing content on the internet. By using these tools, you can ensure that your work is genuinely original and free from any unintentional plagiarism.

Conclusion and final thoughts 💭

To wrap up, whether QuillBot can be detected by SafeAssign depends on how the tool is used. If you use QuillBot to rephrase text but the new content is still similar to the original or lacks citations, SafeAssign might spot it.

On the flip side, if you use QuillBot to make significant changes and properly cite your sources, SafeAssign is less likely to detect it. Ultimately, creating unique and plagiarism-free content involves writing in your own words, taking notes, crediting your sources, investing time in research, and using plagiarism detection tools.

When it comes to academic plagiarism, teachers and students alike need to have versatile tools on their side not just to find instances of plagiarism but also to prevent it before ever turning the paper in. That’s where the SafeAssign plagiarism checker comes in. But does it really do the job? We take a closer look with our in-depth SafeAssign plagiarism checker review.

does safeassign check for paraphrasing

SafeAssign is a plagiarism detection tool owned by Blackboard, a popular LMS ( learning management system ) in many colleges and universities. Although it is an integral part of Blackboard, SafeAssign also works with the Canvas LMS and is used extensively by instructors as a part of the evaluation process.

How Does SafeAssign Plagiarism Checker Work?

When a student submits a document to SafeAssign, the plagiarism checker goes to work, analyzing other academic and online sources to determine if there is a match. Not only can it alert professors of any possible instances of plagiarism, but it can also help students properly cite and reference their sources when writing their papers.

Why Use SafeAssign’s Plagiarism Checker?

Many instructors use SafeAssign because it is tightly and conveniently integrated into their school’s LMS. This, in turn, promotes a culture of academic integrity in the classroom. In addition, students can rely on SafeAssign to help them properly cite their sources as well as improve the quality of their writing by formulating their own ideas rather than taking them from elsewhere.

Its objective feedback helps students avoid inadvertent (or purposeful) plagiarism while giving them the tools they need to write with greater confidence.

What are Some SafeAssign Features?

As with many online plagiarism checkers, SafeAssign leverages a wide range of academic journals and websites to check for a variety of forms of plagiarism. In addition, schools can create an institutional database of student-submitted papers to help instructors dissuade students from writing essays or reports for each other.

By identifying patterns in writing styles and tones, instructors can help uncover plagiarism at the source, helping to preserve academic integrity within the institution.

SafeAssign also features DirectSubmit, a method wherein instructors can check papers outside of the school’s chosen LMS. Rather than submitting papers through the LMS, which are then checked with SafeAssign, students can upload their papers directly to SafeAssign.

Instructors can also use SafeAssign beyond its plagiarism-checking features and use it for rubrics, grading, and commenting on each student’s work individually.

How Does SafeAssign’s Algorithm Work?

SafeAssign’s algorithm works by comparing the work you’ve submitted to its database of academic journals and online sources . It first extracts text and removes all formatting including headers, footers, and citations to get only the main part of the paper.

It then creates a digital fingerprint of your text using a “hash” or a type of mathematical algorithm . This is unique to your paper and is used to compare it to different sources. It then compares this digital fingerprint to content submitted by other users as well as its own database of journals and websites, looking for matching or similar text.

Finally, when the process is complete, SafeAssign creates an originality report that highlights any areas of potential plagiarism along with a percentage of similarity. It also includes a list of sources. From there, the instructor can look at the report to determine if a reference was improperly cited or if plagiarism has occurred.

How to Use SafeAssign Step-by-Step

  • Log in to your school’s learning management system (Blackboard or Canvas)
  • Create an assignment for the course that you want to use SafeAssign on.
  • Give the assignment a title, instructions, and relevant details like how many points it’s worth and when it’s due
  • Click on the “Enable SafeAssign” option which will enable plagiarism checking for that assignment
  • Choose whether or not you want students to be able to view their originality reports. If you do, they’ll see the report after they submit the document which can help them improve.
  • Select any other assignment settings, then save and post the assignment

Students will then submit assignments through the LMS as normal and SafeAssign will check them for plagiarism.

How to Get the Most Out of SafeAssign Plagiarism Checker

In order to get the most out of SafeAssign, it’s important to read its reports carefully. False positives are possible with any plagiarism tool, so it’s important to not only look at the percentage of matching text but also look at the highlighted text to determine if something has been plagiarized.

SafeAssist is an excellent teaching tool that can show students how to properly cite their work and improve their writing as a whole.

Troubleshooting Common Issues with SafeAssign Plagiarism Checker

As with any plagiarism checker, there is always the potential for false positives , however being that SafeAssign is a tool used primarily in academic settings there are also other common complaints with the system, namely that it gives a student a grade of 0 if an assignment is late. To help with this issue, ensure students are aware of the deadline and update SafeAssign settings to be sure that they are configured correctly.

In some cases, there may be technical issues such as incorrect grades or other technical hiccups. If these happen, it’s important to contact your school’s vendor promptly to resolve any issues that might be affecting the program’s performance .

How Does SafeAssign Compare To Originality.ai?

Both SafeAssign and Originality.ai are plagiarism detection tools, however, SafeAssign is primarily used for academia and Originality.ai is geared toward content publishers, writers, and website owners. In addition, SafeAssign only works to detect plagiarism and cannot detect AI-written content, whereas Originality.ai can detect content that has been written by ChatGPT and other AI writing programs.

How Does Originality.ai’s Algorithm Work?

With the newly released 2.0.1 Standard (BETA) model, the Originality.ai checker can now detect AI-written content with 99%+ accuracy. Then, Version Lite 1.0.0, with an under 1% false positive rate, allows for light AI editing (such as with Grammarly). Learn more about AI detection accuracy in our guide.

Should You Use SafeAssign’s Plagiarism Checker?

Comparing SafeAssign and Originality.ai is like apples and oranges. Although both incorporate plagiarism checkers, the audience is markedly different. Although academia now has a stronger need than ever to fight back against AI-written and plagiarized content, SafeAssign can only help in one area of the multi-pronged problem.

Originality.ai checks documents for plagiarism and AI-written content. You can opt to scan for AI-generated content, plagiarism, and readability together using the Originality.ai Content Scanner . Alternatively, you can select to simply scan for plagiarism with the Plagiarism Checker .

In either case, scanning content for AI, plagiarism, or both presents an excellent opportunity to promote academic integrity.

‍ Note : False positives can occur with AI detection, always review content that is flagged as AI carefully in academic settings.

As an avid researcher myself, this topic has piqued my interest. In this article, we will delve into the intricacies of SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection process and explore the challenges it faces when dealing with AI-generated content.

We live in an era where technology is advancing at lightning speed, and ensuring academic integrity becomes increasingly crucial.

So join me on this analytical journey as we uncover how institutions can maintain their standards while combating the ever-evolving world of AI in academia.

Understanding SafeAssign’s Plagiarism Detection Process

SafeAssign uses advanced algorithms to detect instances of plagiarism, ensuring that the process is thorough and effective.

How SafeAssign Works: How to Use SafeAssign & how Long it takes

How SafeAssign works

How SafeAssign works

Are you wondering how SafeAssign works? Have you uploaded your paper and want to know how long it takes to scan and process an originality report? Well, you are not alone. In this comprehensive guide, we answer all these questions and more.

Now that we have grasped the basics of SafeAssign, it is time to understand how it works. It is a tool that seeks to prevent plagiarism. Below, we will cover the various aspects of Blackboard’s plagiarism scanner that further demonstrate how it works.

Easy navigation table

How SafeAssign Works

Basically, SafeAssign works by comparing the text of the uploaded file with millions of papers in its database and the internet to report any plagiarism. It works to expose the areas that seem to overlap between the existing and submitted works. As a result, SafeAssign exposes plagiarism and prevents students from copying.

does safeassign check for paraphrasing

From a relatively positive perspective, it allows students to properly give credit to other sources instead of paraphrasing them.

To accomplish this, SafeAssign identifies the specific areas within a student’s paper that overlaps with already submitted papers and/or existing works.

Apart from plagiarism prevention, SafeAssign helps students appropriately attribute sources of their information instead of submitting their work without crediting the author or original work.

Therefore, SafeAssign is both an educational and a deterrent tool. Below, we will be covering its various aspects that further demonstrate how it works.

It is uses text-matching that is capable of identifying inexact and exact matches between submitted papers versus existing works and source materials.

Things that SafeAssign looks for when Scanning

As noted earlier, SafeAssign is a service or tool used to prevent plagiarism by detecting similarities between your paper and other works.

This means that its plagiarism scanning software looks for phrases similar to papers previously submitted through its systems or available online.

It also looks for sentences or paragraphs that have been paraphrased or carry a similar message/meaning to existing works without appropriately giving them credit through citations.

To achieve this, all the assignments submitted through SafeAssign are compared to files from various databases. They include the following:

1. Archives from Institutional Documents

SafeAssign check

Those archives are comprised of all the works that have been previously submitted by users within their institutions to SafeAssign.

Basically, institutional document archives are the students’ papers from different institutions that use the plagiarism scanner software.

2. The Internet

This includes all the available documents on the internet that you can access on the world wide web.

3. Global Reference Database

The database comprises works that students have volunteered for, and they are meant to counter cross-institutional plagiarism. Those students are from institutions that are categorized as Blackboard clients.

4. ProQuest ABI/Inform Database

This exclusive access database contains close to 2.6 million articles from the 1990s to the present and about 1,100 titles of publication. They update the database regularly, mostly every week.

What SafeAssign Detects or what it doesn’t

SafeAssign identifies every matching block of text in your paper. This does not mean it checks word for word to identify any overlapping material between your paper and existing papers in its database and other databases.

However, students and instructors should countercheck if the matching texts match the identified source.

This is because the plagiarism scanner can wrongfully match some text within the student’s paper to a source. While it’s not 100% a guarantee, it is good to note it can avoid some content. Read my guide on SafeAssign accuracy to know the effectiveness of its detection.

Again, counterchecking the matching text helps identify if you appropriately cite or reference, thus preventing errors in detection. This is because there are different standards in citations or references.

Custom Essay Writing Service by vetted writers

Can safeassign detect paraphrasing.

Yes, SafeAssign can detect paraphrasing, especially text that is improperly paraphrased. Turnitin will flag the use of synonyms if poorly done to escape plagiarism.

It does this because it is purposefully created to detect any overlaps between your paper and any other material online or already submitted in its database.

To achieve this, the scanning software looks for matching words, phrases, and the meaning conveyed by your sentences. Even when you paraphrase your work, the meaning may be retained.

This is the reason why SafeAssign’s algorithm will highlight the paraphrased text and correctly (in most cases) identify the source of the material.

As a student, you may find it cheeky to include synonyms as a way of paraphrasing the original text. SafeAssign will still be able to detect the overlap between your text and existing works.

Can SafeAssign Detect old Papers?

SafeAssign can detect old papers if you or any other student has submitted them to any educational institution that uses it or its partners. Old assignments will be detected if re-submitted because they were stored in the scanner’s database and its collaborators when originally uploaded.

However, SafeAssign will not detect old papers if they have never been submitted before.

does safeassign check for paraphrasing

As noted earlier in this article, Blackboard’s SafeAssign relies on multiple databases with which it partners.

They include the internet, global reference database, institutional document archives, and ProQuest ABI/Inform database.

There are hundreds of thousands of old papers or works published in those databases which SafeAssign compares to your paper.

If by any chance you are tempted to submit an old paper that contains the desired response to the assignment prompt, the algorithm will automatically detect that the paper already exists.

In another scenario, a student copies parts of an old paper and paste them into their paper.

In addition, SafeAssign will detect those parts. Therefore, you should not submit old papers because you will score a zero.

How to use SafeAssign as a student

Different institutions and instructors use different tools to check for plagiarism in papers that have been submitted for grading. If your instructor or institution uses SafeAssign as the plagiarism checker , you will be prompted to submit your assignment through this service.

YouTube video

After that, select the number of attempts you have made to submit your work. You will select the “Single Attempt” option if it is the first attempt.

Students should note that SafeAssign supports English-language submissions only.

Note : if you enable the “Anonymous Grading,” as a student, your originality reports will not be accessed by your instructor until you turn it off.

However, the student can view their originality reports depending on whether the system allows you to view them.

The originality reports show the level of plagiarism in terms of percentages. It shows the level of plagiarism in terms of percentages. This way, SafeAssign maintains academic integrity in educational institutions.

You can use SafeAssign for free because it is a tool that students, lecturers, instructors, and writers can use through Blackboard in their universities. Through the university systems, you are able to check for plagiarism in papers in available books articles and submitted papers.

Students and writers can use it before submitting papers. Instructors use it to check the submitted work. Read all about using this scanner in our guide to reading SafeAssign scores and all their interpretations.

Relationship between Turnitin and SafeAssign

Many people ask how these two are related. Well, Turnitin checks SafeAssign’s content, and any file submitted to it can also be detected by Turnitin. This is because the two have partnerships that help detect plagiarism and prevent the submission of files in different universities.

The check is possible because Turnitin has partnerships with other databases and large academic institutions to help increase its effectiveness in plagiarism detection.

These databases, therefore, increase the sources and breadth of comparison between already existing work. This is because it is based on a text-matching algorithm that checks for plagiarism by comparing text.

How long does SafeAssign Take?

Many students may wonder how long it would take for SafeAssign to send a report. Well, it depends on the number of reports are requested within a semester.

Ideally, SafeAssign takes between 15 and 30 minutes to generate an originality report after submitting a file on its systems through Blackboard. However, the process can take longer depending on the number of files uploaded due to different seasons of the semester. During peak seasons like the end of semesters, it can take up to 15 to 24hours.

There are times during the semester when students from various institutions need to submit their papers within a similar time frame.

The more the demand for reports, the more time it takes for the system to process and produce a report. The lesser the demand, the lesser the time it would take.

When there is a lesser demand for reports, the plagiarism scanner sends back the SafeAssign originality (SA) report in just a few minutes.

When the demand is high, The system sends the reports after several hours. During the peak periods of the semester, reports can take between 24 and 36 hours or even more.

What to do when SafeAssign is Slow

When SafeAssign is slow, all you have to do is to be patient and wait for the generation of the report. If 24 hours elapse and no report, consider contacting your instructor to guide you on an alternative way to submit your assignment. In any case, do not panic or try to submit multiple times as this may be counter-productive.

Wait when SafeAssign is slow

Sometimes, SafeAssign service delays can occur throughout the semester because of the high demand for its reports or system errors or delays.

Any delays should not worry you since such delays will affect multiple students.

It also affects instructors from different institutions that use SafeAssign services to submit their papers.

When students face delays or SafeAssign is slow to send a report, please DO NOT resubmit your papers.

This is because resubmission pushes your papers to the back of other requests’ queue. Therefore, it is not advisable to check your SafeAssign score before submitting because the delay may end up consuming your time and deadline.

Remember that requests for SafeAssign reports are high and resubmission will prioritize papers that have been submitted before yours. For instructors, DO NOT ask students for resubmissions because their reports will be delayed even more.

SafeAssign is a tool that works to prevent plagiarism by detecting plagiarism by flagging content that is unoriginal. It is among the ways that Blackboard detects cheating and also prevents the same from happening.

It, therefore, helps students to realize the importance of original work. Read our guide on SafeAssign hacks and learn a few tricks to get away with plagiarism.

As a result, they will appropriately give credit to the original authors of the works used as sources of information in their papers. This means that safeAssign works as a tool to prevent plagiarism by deterring students from copying assignments and uploading plagiarized work.

Avoid Plagiarism

Plagiarism is a serious offense with serious consequences.

Merriam-Webster definitions for plagiarism:

  • Using the words or ideas of another person as if they were your own words or ideas
  • Stealing and passing off—the ideas or words of another—as one's own
  • Using another's production without crediting the source
  • Committing literary theft
  • Presenting as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source 1

Few people consider copying from the web serious cheating. However, anything published on the web is considered an original expression of an idea, which is protected by copyright laws.

Practicing plagiarism can destroy your personal, academic, and professional reputation. The result may have both legal and monetary repercussions. 2

You can avoid plagiarism

Learn what plagiarism is . Many types of plagiarism exist—from cloning to recycling. Know the types of plagiarism to avoid them (available English only).

Understand how to cite your sources . Confirm which style of citing sources your instructors expect as they have many to choose from. Know the style each instructor prefers. If you have a choice, choose one style and use it consistently.

Plan your assignment work . Summarize your original idea and plan how you intend to express it. Create drafts and outlines, indicate what sources you intend to find, and explain how you intend to use them.

Know your subject . The more familiar you're with the subject, the more likely you are to use your own words. The more sources you look at, the more familiar you'll become with the subject. Be sure to track your sources.

Take notes when you review sources . Good note-taking can help organize your thoughts and express someone else's ideas in your own words.

Cite your sources . If you're unsure, err on the side of caution and cite your sources.

Be careful to clearly identify someone else's ideas and words . Citing sources isn't enough. Be clear as to who said what. When it's due, give credit to your sources.

Check for plagiarism potential

SafeAssign is a tool available to you and your instructors. SafeAssign helps promote originality and creates opportunities to help you identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase.

SafeAssign is based on a unique text matching algorithm capable of detecting exact and inexact matching between a paper and source material. Assignments are compared against several databases containing millions of articles dating from the 1990s to the present. After the comparison, a report is generated that details the percentage of text in your paper that matches existing sources.

SafeAssign vs. Turnitin: Everything You Should Know

SafeAssign vs. Turnitin

Plagiarism is a heavily prejudiced act in the literary and digital sectors, and it is an act that university or college students must strive to avoid.

The internet has provided us with instant access to vast amounts of information from anywhere in the world. Original ideas are becoming increasingly scarce. Hence, the need for plagiarism detection tools and originality checkers for professional instructors and online classes.

Two popular online tools that help to tackle plagiarism nightmares are SafeAssign by Blackboard and Turnitin. Being familiar with both tools, as a writing help and dissertation team, it is necessary we distinguish between both programs.

What is SafeAssign?

SafeAssign is a plagiarism detection tool developed by Blackboard that identifies overlaps between assignments and existing works. This tool aims to detect unoriginal content in submitted papers and also help students, especially those in the university, appropriately cite materials instead of wrongly extracting or paraphrasing the content. SafeAssign works by comparing a submitted paper to several databases to detect direct matches and possible paraphrases in the paper. The databases used to compare assignments submitted to the SafeAssign database include institutional reference archives, the internet, inform database, and global reference database .

Before submission, users are advised to use only letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens when saving the work to be screened, as SafeAssign does not evaluate assignment submissions with special characters.

What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is an online plagiarism detection service employed in high schools, colleges, and universities to compare submitted works against the Turnitin database as well as with information on external sites.

The Turnitin software compares submitted papers to numerous databases using a proprietary algorithm to check for possible duplicate text. It has licensing arrangements with reliable academic proprietary databases. It also scans its databases.

SafeAssign vs. Turnitin – Which is Better?

SafeAssign and Turnitin are both used by students and staff in academic institutions to check for and prevent plagiarism. Submitted works are compared to online sites, online library databases, eBooks, newspapers, magazines, online journals, online reference sites, and previously submitted papers.

However, there are some differences between these two tools. Depending on your academic status, the type of paper to be screened, and the deadline, either tool can be the better option for you.

The primary difference is that SafeAssign is integrated with Blackboard, whereas with Turnitin, you need to visit their website for access. Some of the other differences are illustrated below.

Feature
Fee Included in the blackboard annual cost. Free service option available. Annual fee based on subscription and account type.
Spell Checker Present Absent
Delegated or Multiple Marking Supported Not supported
Group Assignments Supported — one member can submit on behalf of the group. Not supported.
Maximum Submittable File Size 10MB 20MB
Accepted File Type DOCX, DOC, PDF, TXT, RTF, HTML, HTM and ODT DOCX, DOC, PDF, TXT, RTF, HTML, HTM, PS, PPT, PPTX and WordPerfect
Submission from Cloud Storage Services Direct submissions not supported. Direct submission via Google Drive and Dropbox supported.
Databases Utilized Global reference database, institutional document archives, internet, inform database. Internet, past published papers, subscription-based publications, library databases, digital reference collections and homework assistance sites.

These differences are not enough to conclude which tool is better as different assignments have different specific requirements. Only a professional writing help service is most informed in other areas of their functions. Such services create the most easy and original content.

False Positives On Plagiarism

One of the issues of concern regarding the use of SafeAssign blackboard and Turnitin to compare two papers is false positives. This is best explained in three bullet notes, using both programs as examples.

  • When you get a positive result for an assessment when you should have gotten a negative result, the “error” is called a false positive. This is especially common with plagiarism checks.
  • According to researchers, many of the instances of “non-originality” detected by Turnitin aren’t plagiarism, but rather the usage of course terminologies or the type of lack of originality one might expect to see in a freshman’s work. Turnitin doesn’t always identify the correct source of plagiarized items in lots of circumstances, according to the report.
  • SafeAssign isn’t ideal either. The tool can deliver false positives, which are items that are non-plagiarized but are flagged as a duplicate by SafeAssign. Because SafeAssign cannot distinguish between cited and un-cited material, false positives may be returned. Appropriately referenced content, for example, might nevertheless be identified as a match, even if it isn’t considered plagiarized. SafeAssign highest match or originality report for low and medium risks is usually about 40%.

Types of False Positives in Turnitin Database and SafeAssign Database

The false positives identified by researchers are in both databases are:

Paraphrases and quotations : in a case where a poorly paraphrased text was flagged for plagiarism, but there was an in-text document to indicate the source, it is counted as a false-positive result. The justification for this is that, as long as the source is cited, then it is a case of improper paraphrasing and not deliberate plagiarism. Quotations flagged for plagiarism are also regarded as false positives. Bibliography : contents in a bibliography flagged for potential plagiarism are also regarded as false positives because a bibliography is basically a list of sources used, whether referenced or not. Fractured language: if only smaller phrases or clauses are flagged for plagiarism in a sentence, it is regarded as a false-positive result. For example, in the statement “cardiovascular diseases are now common, as many of the risk factors affect the average person, especially obesity and arthritis.” If the disjointed wordings “cardiovascular diseases are now common” and “obesity and arthritis” are flagged as potentially plagiarized, it is a false positive. Common language : common statements or terms such as book titles, cliches, and idiomatic expressions are not regarded as potentially plagiarized languages. Therefore, if SafeAssign or Turnitin flags such language for plagiarism, it is counted as a false positive.

These false positives indicate that both SafeAssign and Turnitin are not infallible, even if they are trusted tools for plagiarism detection.

Turnitin Vs. Safeassign – Which Reports More False Positives

When you say “SafeAssign says I plagiarized”, sometimes it could be false positives. But which of the tools produce the more false positives?

A study carried out at Texas Tech University found that Turnitin flagged more potentially plagiarized works than SafeAssign. From this study, it was also found that Turnitin had more reports for false positives too.

Hence, the higher plagiarisms found. When they dug further into the statistics, they discovered that many of the sentences identified by Turnitin and SafeAssign—mostly Turnitin—weren’t actually plagiarism. According to them, there were instances where specific words appeared for genuine reasons.

  • How Long Does it Take Safeassign to Check a Paper?

Or you may wonder how long does safeassign keep papers? SafeAssign typically takes 15-30 minutes to scan a submitted report and produce its originality report. In cases where the traffic is high and many papers are being uploaded, it might take hours to scan a paper for an originality check. During busy periods of the semester, the delay might be up to 13 hours.

  • Does SafeAssign check Turnitin and Vice-versa?

SafeAssign and Turnitin store scanned papers on different databases; hence, SafeAssign cannot check Turnitin. So, if you upload a paper in Turnitin, it will not be detected by SafeAssign and vice versa. Only an expert knows this.

Avoid Plagiarism With Professional Writers By Your Side

It is noble to carry out assignments and projects with the intention of being 100% original. But you can’t be 100% on your own unless you seek thesis help and dissertation guidance, and this is one of the services we provide. So, whether you decide to use SafeAssign or Turnitin for originality check, our dissertation experts ensure that there are no instances of possible duplication and confirm that paraphrasing cannot be detected. That way, you are guaranteed top grades at the most affordable prices.

Does SafeAssign Check Previously Submitted Work?

In case you are displeased with our services or didn’t get what you wanted, our money refund policy stipulates how you can get your money back. Be sure that we will not withhold any of your hard-earned dollars whenever you have a valid reason for a refund.

What Does SafeAssign Check For?

SafeAssign primarily checks for plagiarism. It is used by educators to find out students that cheat or copy-and-paste information from other sources. It is also used by students to learn how to cite works properly and is a great research paper help tool.

Which is Better: Turnitin Vs SafeAssign?

From the differences, a high school or college student will find SafeAssign more suitable to use since the spellchecker is of great help. SafeAssign is also relatively cheap compared to Turnitin, considering the free service available. For assignments that are more complex, such as research works for the university and postgraduate students, Turnitin is the better choice. This is because complex reports and assignments are expected to be of very high quality, and they are usually judged using professional standards. For plagiarism detection, Turnitin is generally better, especially for instructors that have to go through numerous submitted assignments.

How Accurate is SafeAssign?

Because SafeAssign is a trusted tool that can compare two papers using multiple databases, it is said to be very accurate in detecting plagiarism – a 92-97% accuracy according to studies. A non-plagiarized work should ideally have a plagiarism score of 0%. However, the acceptable range for SafeAssign plagiarism score is 0-15%.

Does Turnitin Detect Paraphrasing?

Turnitin is software developed to detect plagiarism. However, a poorly paraphrased text can be detected by Turnitin. If the paraphrasing is well done, and few or no identical wordings are used, Turnitin will not detect it.

Can You Submit a Paper to Turnitin Twice?

You cannot submit a paper twice to a typical plagiarism detection software like Turnitin. This is because the next submission would be flagged for plagiarism against the previously submitted file. However, if the assignment setting allows it, you can resubmit as many times as you want to before the deadline.

Does Turnitin Check Pictures?

Turnitin does not check pictures with texts that cannot be detected by its algorithm. This means that if you cannot highlight a text from a picture, Turnitin will not flag the text for plagiarism, even if it is a duplicated text.

Safe Assign (Plagiarism Checking)

Safe Assign is a plagiarism detection and prevention tool that is part of Blackboard. It compares submitted assignments to the following sources:

  • Internet sources – public access sources
  • ProQuest database
  • Institutional document archives – any previously submitted documents from University of Rochester’s Blackboard system
  • Global Reference database – any submissions made voluntarily to a global database of all Blackboard customers

Note: University of Rochester is currently not providing students the opportunity to submit to the Global Reference database.

How To Read Your Report (PDF)

The University of Rochester highly recommends that instructors provide students with the option to view their reports before final submission and to exclude these initial submissions from being stored in the institutional database. Check with your Blackboard support to learn more about how to allow this.

The University of Rochester also discourages the use of the Direct Submit option. Students should be aware that their papers are being submitted to the system to be checked for plagiarism. Direct Submit bypasses this step.

Please note that once submitted, the Safe Assign Originality Report may take some time to process. Processing can take anywhere from minutes to days, depending on the volume of submissions to the central system. During busy times in the academic year (midterms and end of semester) the process is subject to take longer.

Note: Safe Assign is a Blackboard shared, hosted solution and is subject to its own maintenance periods and downtimes. University of Rochester has no control over these. When University of Rochester is made aware of any maintenance or downtimes, they will be posted in Announcements.

Note that you must first turn on the Safe Assign tools in your course before the options in the documentation become available. Tools can be turned on under Customization, Tool Availability.

About the Originality Report

The system generates an originality report that offers suggestions about possible sources of plagiarism. Please note that this is not definitive, nor comprehensive; the instructor still needs to review the submission.

Risks of False Positives:

  • Does not always distinguish properly quoted material
  • Cannot distinguish between common phrases and truly proprietary expressions

Risks of False Negatives:

  • Limited search
  • Cannot detect disguised plagiarism

Results returned in a SafeAssign Originality Report may not be identical to results returned by a consumer internet search service (e.g. Google, Bing, etc.) for any individual sentence or phrase. The results from the SafeAssign service are only meant to be a tool for use at the discretion of the teacher or instructor. Due to the size and scope of both academic subject matter and the number of resources searched by SafeAssign, the results are not meant to guarantee or otherwise indicate that plagiarism has or has not occurred. The assessment of potential plagiarism should reside in the hands of the instructor, and SafeAssign results should always be considered in the context of other resources and good judgment.

SafeAssign does not distinguish between direct quotations and text lifted from a source; students who are quoting correctly will likely have reports that indicate overlap with these sources. The reports are easy to read because these instances are easily noted.

Conversely, SafeAssign does not catch essays that include plagiarized ideas or concepts, nor can it detect uncited paraphrasing that dramatically changes the wording of an original source while maintaining that source’s organization and/or sentence structure.

The implications of originality reports are not always self-evident. Teachers need to discuss the interpretation of these reports with students and allow students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the tool.

If you have questions about interpreting the originality report, please contact a librarian or your academic honesty office.

FERPA and HIPAA Policy Information

FERPA considerationsAccording to FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, education records that identify students without their consent may not be disclosed to third parties.

  • Students should be advised to remove their name and any personal information (name, SSN, Student ID) from within the paper and title page, or the header or footer before submitting assignments to Safe Assign.
  • If a student wants to voluntarily leave their name on their paper, they may do so.

Additionally, this “cloud” service is not HIPAA compliant, therefore assignments that contain patient information should not be created with Safe Assignment and students should not be asked to submit papers containing patient information.

Plagiarism Prevention Strategies

The following are tips on preventing plagiarism:

  • Require multiple drafts of assignments before final submission
  • Design original assignments that are hard to plagiarize
  • Provide aids to comprehension of complex texts
  • Provide multiple low-stakes assignments
  • Provide clear guidance on preventing plagiarism

Guidelines for Use

Use SafeAssign as part of a balanced approach to encourage academic integrity and foster student success:

  • by providing clear instructions and guidance for assignments
  • by encouraging students to manage time and make progress prior to deadlines for submission of graded assignments
  • by making other resources known to students (e.g., writing center)
  • by using it as a deterrent, not as a “caught you” enforcement tool

Openly disclose the use of SafeAssign for this course on the syllabus and at the time assignments are announced, including clarifying the choices made about retention of student work (Local, or No-Retention).

For any given assignment:

  • use SafeAssign for all papers;
  • not submit papers arbitrarily to SafeAssign, for the purpose of reviewing originality reports for papers deemed “suspicious;”
  • or consider exceptions for specific students, who may object to the retention of their work by SafeAssign, working with the University Ombudsperson to resolve any conflict

Faculty should make the final determination of originality and integrity. The originality reports, and the machine judgment that generates them, provide a set of useful resources for comparison. However, there is no substitute for human judgment and assessment prior to generating feedback for students or making a determination about honesty and integrity.

To ensure privacy, please ask students to remove identification (e.g., names and student numbers) from submissions because:

  • Blackboard will automatically show student’s names to assignments when instructors are viewing, or downloading.
  • removing the identifying information from the document allows it to be preserved in the repository without affecting the student’s educational privacy.

Checking for Plagiarism

How to check your work for plagiarism.

Your assignments must reflect your original thoughts and ideas, and you must properly cite information from sources. When you do not properly cite sources, that’s plagiarism.

Your assignment submissions will automatically be checked for plagiarism by SafeAssign, a feature in your online classroom. SafeAssign compares your submission to a database of student work and the internet and then generates an Originality Report that you and your instructor can review. This is to help you identify any information included in your assignment that you may not have properly cited.

Note: Remember that assignments based on worksheets or templates will often lead to high risk scores and text matching percentages even when the student has submitted original work. Please reach out to your instructor if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.

If you need help with citations, we’ve got your back! Check out the Understand Citations page in the University Library.

  • You are required to submit only your own original work with proper citations for external sources quoted in that work.
  • Your instructor will see a report for every submission.
  • Copied or purchased assignments are likely to be caught, and this can result in a Code of Conduct violation, which can lead to a failing course grade, suspension, or even expulsion from the University.

Complete the following steps to check your work for plagiarism:

  • Submit your assignment and then close out of the assignment.
  • Open your assignment again and view the Details & Information panel.
  • If the report is not ready, you will see Originality Report in progress.
  • If the report is ready, select View Originality Report to view the summary, which shows how much of your work matches the work of others.

There's literally no way to get caught plagiarizing with Chat GPT

Not that I encourage plagiarism, but there's been these ideas going around that if you use it, you'll get caught. I just want to show that this is a myth. IT CAN BE BYPASSED IN ONE STEP.

First, some background information. https://writer.com/ai-content-detector/ , https://corrector.app/ai-content-detector/ , and https://gptradar.com/ are the most reliable AI detectors I have found. I have also used https://gptzero.me/ , but it flags literally everything, even human-written text (I tested it), so we won't be using that.

Here, I'll do a simple example.

1. Ask GPT to write you anything. It should get flagged.

2. Quillbot it

Some other things people can do are:

- remove passive voice (such as "it's important to note that")

- remove the conclusion (this is a BIG one)

- if needed, Quillbot more than once

Another VERY EFFECTIVE way to bypass: If you tell Chat GPT a framework for your essay or whatever, such as "write an essay about cars, talking about when I was little, my dad used to take me for long drives. However, it all ended when we got into a car crash. Stem out from this point about car safety."

Then, remove the conclusion (write your own) because Chat GPT's conclusion is one of its signature moves. Change a few words/sentences so you like it better or remove some sentences that you don't like and replace them with something you like.

Doing that should bypass AI detection as well.

PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT ENCOURAGING PLAGIARISM, RATHER JUST LETTING YOU ALL KNOW THAT THERE IS NO RELIABLE WAY TO DETECT AI PLAGIARISM.

Can SafeAssign Detect ChatGPT? (Explained)

' src=

SafeAssign is a widely-used plagiarism detection tool in academia, while ChatGPT is an advanced language model developed by OpenAI. SafeAssign is primarily designed to detect instances of plagiarism in students’ papers , but it does not have the capability to detect AI-generated text like ChatGPT .

SafeAssign compares a student’s text against a database of academic papers, websites, and other relevant resources. However, it does not scrutinize writing style or nuances that could indicate AI authorship.

As ChatGPT generates unique content that is not directly copied from existing sources, it can easily bypass SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection.

The Working of SafeAssign

SafeAssign, a widely popular tool in the academic industry, is a popular plagiarism detection system. Its primary objective is to analyze a student’s submitted text by cross-referencing it with an extensive collection of academic papers, websites, and fellow students’ submissions.

By analyzing each sentence, SafeAssign searches for matches or similarities with existing content, both within its database and on the internet.

After completing the analysis, SafeAssign generates an originality report that provides valuable insights into the paper’s content. This report includes a SafeAssign score, which indicates the percentage of the paper that matches other sources.

The originality report highlights any sections of the paper that have similarities with external sources, making it easier for instructors to identify potential instances of plagiarism.

How SafeAssign Works

When a student submits their paper, SafeAssign breaks it down into smaller fragments and checks each fragment against its vast database. This comprehensive analysis helps detect similarities, even if the text has been rearranged, paraphrased, or slightly modified.

SafeAssign also considers the overall structure and formatting of the document to identify copied content.

While SafeAssign is generally accurate in detecting verbatim plagiarism and identifying similarities between academic papers, it does have limitations. It may occasionally flag common phrases that are widely used without constituting plagiarism.

Additionally, SafeAssign may miss instances of paraphrased plagiarism, where students have altered the original text to evade detection.

The originality report generated by SafeAssign allows instructors to review the highlighted sections and determine if there are any concerns regarding academic integrity.

Through the use of SafeAssign, educational institutions can foster a culture of originality and ensure that students uphold ethical writing practices.

The Capabilities of ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an advanced AI model developed by OpenAI that utilizes deep learning techniques to generate human-like text. With its impressive capabilities, ChatGPT can produce a wide range of written content, including essays, articles, summaries, poetry, and more.

What sets ChatGPT apart is its ability to generate fundamentally unique text, making it a powerful tool for content creation.

Unlike other AI models, ChatGPT does not simply copy and paste information from its training data. Instead, it employs methods such as paraphrasing, summarizing, and creating entirely new sentences, resulting in highly creative and distinctive content.

This uniqueness poses a challenge for plagiarism detection tools like SafeAssign when it comes to identifying and flagging AI-generated text.

The main focus of SafeAssign is to identify exact word-for-word plagiarism by comparing submitted text with a database of academic papers, websites, and other sources. However, it is not equipped to detect AI-generated content that is not simply copied from existing sources.

As a result, ChatGPT-generated text can often bypass SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection .

Evaluating the Uniqueness of AI-generated Text

Due to ChatGPT’s ability to generate unique content, it is crucial for students and researchers to consider the limitations and ethical implications of using AI models like ChatGPT for academic work.

While ChatGPT’s content may pass the plagiarism check, it does not guarantee the quality, accuracy, or relevance of the writing. Therefore, it is essential to critically evaluate and validate the generated text before incorporating it into scholarly or educational materials.

Limitations and Ethical Considerations

SafeAssign, while a widely used tool for promoting academic integrity, has its limitations when it comes to detecting AI-generated text. The focus of SafeAssign is primarily on verbatim plagiarism, comparing students’ papers against existing sources to identify direct matches.

However, SafeAssign lacks the capability to detect content generated by advanced AI models like ChatGPT.

This limitation raises important ethical considerations regarding academic integrity. As ChatGPT and similar AI models can generate fundamentally unique content, they can easily bypass SafeAssign’s plagiarism detection.

While a piece of writing may pass the SafeAssign check, it does not guarantee the quality, relevance, or originality of the content.

Students should be aware of these limitations and ethical implications when considering the use of AI-generated content for their academic work.

While it may seem tempting to rely on AI models like ChatGPT to produce essays or articles, it is important to remember that academic integrity is about more than just avoiding plagiarism detection. It is about learning, researching, and engaging with subject matter in a genuine and thoughtful way.

Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the students and educators to critically evaluate the use of AI-generated content in academia. While SafeAssign provides a valuable tool for detecting certain forms of plagiarism, it cannot fully address the challenges posed by AI-generated text.

It is crucial to maintain academic integrity by using AI models responsibly and ensuring that the content produced reflects the student’s own understanding and effort.
