Business Article Review: Business Ethics
The major theme/main idea in It’s Time to Make Management a True Profession is about treating managers like a doctor or lawyer if they went through qualifications and schooling (Khurana & Nohria, 2008). Khurana and Nohria (2008) support their claim by comparing and contrasting lawyers and doctors with the possibility of what a management profession would be like. The main aim is to convince the readers that a professional code for managers should be established so the unethical practices will begin diminishing in society. The thesis in this article is convincing; however, there is not any statistical data to back up their claims about misconduct and moral behavior in current management practices today (Khurana & Nohria, 2008). Based off the information given in this article, I will discuss how a management profession would occur if it were to be set forth in society; then I will discuss the benefits and downfalls; then I go over some examples and why this topic might be important in this present era.

More and more scholars are expressing their apprehensions regarding the current state of management education. The increased number of corporate scandals has fueled their concerns that training students to have sound business ethics upon graduation has failed. Consequently, research is emerging that focuses on the lack of impact that business ethics teaching has had on students in recent years. Remarkably, the voice of managers has barely been heard in this area, even though they are the ones who are among those best suited to evaluate graduates’ capabilities to solve ethical dilemmas. This research npresents the managers’ view on the role of business schools in training students in business ethics, and the managers’ evaluation of business schools’ success in that area. The findings reveal that managers are quite disappointed with the lack of improvement in the ethics of graduating students. Managers nonetheless provide a range of ideas for business schools to work on, and particularly, call for closer collaboration between industry and business schools.

"This report (with Richard Moorhead, Christine Parker, R.D Kershaw and Soren Holm) explores empirical approaches to tracking ethical quality in legal services provision over time, addressing concerns that market liberalisation could lead to a 'race to the bottom' which increases consumer risk and undermines the public interest. This article reviews the critics of business schools from different stakeholder viewpoints—including academia, NGOs, corporations, institutions and public opinion—in regards to their responsibility for the many economic crises and ethical misbehaviours witnessed in the last 50 years and that have led to the escalation of several major world sustainability problems. What emerges is that, despite critics have been risen several times and by multiple stakeholders at different times, such responsibility has never been fully acknowledged and, as a result of this, current business school programmes are still lacking an important focus on ethical behaviour and systemic thinking—identified in this article as two major contributors to possible solutions for the major issues the world is suffering today. Yet, some very encouraging examples of innovative and responsible business education have now started to emerge and gain the attention of the public, academia and other interested stakeholders.

Professional misconduct has become seemingly ubiquitous in recent decades. However, to date there has been little sustained effort to theorize the phenomenon of professional misconduct, how this relates to professional organizations, and how this may contribute to broader patterns of corruption and wrongdoing. In response to this gap, in this contribution we discuss the theoretical and empirical implications of analyses that focus on the nature, antecedents and consequences of professional misconduct. In particular, we discuss how the nature of professional misconduct can be quite variegated and nuanced, how boundaries between and within professions can be either too weak or too strong and lead to professional misconduct, and how the consequence of professional misconduct can be less straightforward than normally assumed. We also illuminate how some important questions about professional misconduct are still pending, including: how we define its different organizational forms; how it is instigated by the changing nature of professional boundaries; and how its consequences are responded to in professional organizations and society more widely.

Critics identify business education as a principal shaper of the 'whatever it takes' mindsets fostering corporate failures like those at Enron, Parmalat and WorldCom (Adler 2002; Ghoshal 2005; Khurana 2007) as well as the global financial crisis that erupted in 2007 (Fishman & Khurana 2008; Stiglitz 2009). As well, accepted ways of thinking face increasing challenge as globalization and advanced knowledge-based activities generate greater complexity, ambiguity and flux in business and organisational life.
