kcl phd requirements

Starting Your Application

Your application will be submitted through Kingā€™s Apply . The first step is to create an account, though donā€™t be intimidated by the long list of titles, the standard ones (Ms, Mr, etc.) can be found by scrolling down slightly.

Course Finder

Once you have registered an account, you will be sent to the course finder, where youā€™ll need to select your programme. Typing in ā€˜mathsā€™ does not work – only ā€˜mathematicsā€™. Statistics must be searched for separately. You can find the applied programme by typing in your research group but be careful not to select an MSc or physics course. Several options will appear, but the correct courses are:

Applied Mathematics Research: Disordered Systems/Financial Mathematics/Probability/Theoretical Physics MPhil/PhD;Pure Mathematics Research MPhil/PhD;and Statistics Research MPhil/PhD.

Start Dates and English Language Requirements

After selecting your course, you will be asked to pick a start date. We will usually only consider applications for entry on October 1st. Other entry dates are exceptional and are only granted for deferrals or reasons relating to funding. We will not offer any internal or research council funding at these dates and may ask applicants to change this entry date or reject them outright.

The subsequent question, on English language requirements, is important for entry if you are an overseas applicant, you must prove that you meet the standard needed ( Band D ).

Residency, Nationality, Education, Employment, and References

These can be done in any order. The section on residency and nationality is necessary for visa reasons as well as determining your fee category. Based on your answers, you will be given a fee status assessment. You can ask for this to be reviewed after your application is submitted. You will also need to submit your education (usually just your BSc/MSc institution and classification) and employment history, as well as contact details for two referees.

Research Proposal

This may seem like the most daunting and important part of your application, so it is a good idea to discuss the level of detail expected here with the admissions tutor (and, for Pure Mathematics, a prospective supervisor). If you have already discussed your planned area of research with them, they may not expect you to write more than a few sentences.

We expect applicants to tick boxes 4 and 5 if they hope to be considered for funding from the department, including research council funding. Funding is allocated to applicants on merit, and admissions tutors will decide the source of funding that a student receives ā€“ this may not reflect what the applicant selected here. Funding offers will usually be sent out from March. There are also several centrally administered PhD funding schemes at King’s , shared across the university.

Attachment Summary and Submission

Make sure you have included everything that you wanted to at the attachment summary and check everything that you have written. Once you have done so, and are happy with your application, you are ready to submit, and can expect to hear from us shortly.

If you have any questions about any of this process, be sure to submit them to Gage Kumar Rull, PGR Programme Officer at [email protected].

  • Admissions Statistics . King's College London. October 2022.
  • FOI Request by Matthew Wall. October 2019.

The acceptance rate , or offer rate, represents the fraction of applicants who received an offer. Note that this will be generally lower the acceptances rates (acceptances divided by applicants) published by many other sources. This article explains it in more detail. The acceptances generally indicate the number of offer holders who accepted the offer and fulfilled its conditions. For some universities, however, it denotes the number of applicants who accepted the offer, regardless of whether they subsequently met its conditions.

Data Reliability

Unless otherwise noted, the data presented comes from the universities and is generally reliable. However, some of the differences between years and/or courses may be due to different counting methodologies or data gathering errors. This may especially be the case if there is a sharp difference from year to year. If the data does not look right, click the "Report" button located near the top of the page.

Mission & Aims of the Program

Fieldingā€™s APA accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program is strongly aligned with the universityā€™s missionĀ to create a more humane, just, and sustainable world, and the universityā€™s values that include academic excellence, community, diversity, and social justice.

Consistent with these values, a core mission of our program is to foster the inclusion of students from under-represented populations. These populations include students living in small communities, rural, or remote locations of the United States, students currently in the military or spouses of military members, adult learners with families, and students whose ongoing participation in their current communities cannot be halted for doctoral study elsewhere. These are student populations who are often unable to enter the field through preparation at a traditional university campus, yet these are the future psychologists for which the discipline and profession have expressed an urgent need.

In addition, our program aims to graduate entry-level scholar-practitioner psychologists who bring social justice values to their work as licensed health service professionals. Consistent with this overarching aim, we have four specific aims for our students, which must be achieved by the time of graduation.

  • Students will demonstrate doctoral-level discipline-specific knowledge that represents the scientific and theoretical knowledge areas of the discipline of psychology (i.e., history and systems of psychology and the affective, biological, cognitive, developmental, and social bases of behavior).
  • Students will demonstrate doctoral-level conceptualization, evaluation, analysis, and integration of discipline-specific knowledge across the curriculum.
  • Students will demonstrate doctoral-level ability to understand and critique research; design, conduct, analyze, and communicate theoretically informed research; and conduct research in a manner that is culturally sensitive and consistent with legal code and ethical standards, including the APA ethics code.
  • Students will demonstrate doctoral-level competence in the profession-wide competencies, including conducting an evidence-based diagnosis, assessment, and psychotherapy; and applying theory and research to develop case conceptualizations, treatment plans, and interventions that are consistent with legal and ethical standards and individual and cultural diversity factors.

Serving adults, many of whom have trained or worked in the mental health field, our unique distributed learning model blends the best of face-to-face learning opportunities with digital formats.

Faculty are active scholars and practitioners with a wide variety of expertise, which allows us to offer specialized concentrations and training in a variety of therapeutic orientations.

Geographic Eligibility

The program only considers applicants who reside in the contiguous United States and Canada. The program is not available to those residing internationally (except Canada). Applicants from Alaska and Hawaii may be considered pending confirmation of their ability and resources to attend local professional development seminars in contiguous U.S. on a regular basis, access to acceptable practicum training sites, and ability to relocate for internship. (ContactĀ [email protected]Ā to be put in touch with the Program Director for consideration prior to applying.)

Due to state licensing requirements, graduates of the program are not eligible for licensure in Oklahoma. For licensure information on your particular state of interest, please visit our Professional Licensure page [CLICK HERE].

Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering

Students typically complete the Ph.D. degree requirements in three to five years. Early in the program, students focus on course-work that enhances their knowledge as they prepare to conduct research.

Within one year, students must pass the departmental qualifying exam, an oral exam that tests research skills and knowledge of a core mechanical engineering subject area.

Student research forms the core of the Ph.D. program. Research involves active student-directed inquiry into an engineering problem, culminating in a written thesis and oral defense.

Ph.D. Financial Support

The majority of full-time Ph.D. students accepted through the standard application process receive fellowships that cover full tuition, the technology fee, and a stipend for living expenses for up to five years, as long as sufficient progress is made toward degree completion. These awards are sufficient to cover all expenses for the year (including summers). Students are required to pay for health insurance, the transportation fee, the activity fee, books, and course supplies. Off-campus housing is available within walking distance of campus. At least one year of residency is required for the Ph.D. We offer two ways to enter the Ph.D. program.
