Telstra Enterprise and Business Partner - all your questions answered

Telstra Partner blog banner blue

10 Aug 2022

Mobilecorp , telstra , mobility, telstra enterprise and business customers have the option to sign with a telstra partner to leverage strategic value from their telstra relationship..

We aim to answer all the questions you may have about the Telstra Partner channel and the support and services that Telstra Partners offer.

All Questions

  • What is a Telstra Partner?

What are the different kinds of Telstra Partners?

What are the telstra partner accreditation tiers, who is entitled to have a telstra partner, how do i know if i have a telstra partner assigned to my business, how can i get a telstra partner assigned to my business, how can i find a telstra partner, how do telstra partners work with your business.

  • How do Telstra Partners work with Telstra?

Who pays for the Telstra Partner service?

How much do telstra partner services cost, how will having a telstra partner benefit your organisation, what are the key features offered by a telstra partner, what is a telstra global partner, why does telstra have a partner ecosystem.

  • Do Optus or Vodafone have Enterprise or Business Partners?

What is the difference between a Telstra Partner and a Telstra store?

  • MobileCorp is Telstra Enterprise Mobility Partner of the Year

Telstra Enterprise and Business Partners help Telstra corporate customers to get the most out of their Telstra relationship.

Telstra Partners reduce workload for companies by providing a single point of contact for all Telstra-related services. They provide personalised premium support services and have access to Telstra backend systems to complete operational tasks.

Telstra Partners allow companies to get the most out of their Telstra relationship by providing advice and expertise across consulting, contract negotiation, emerging technologies, and technical and managed services related to Telstra products and solutions.

Telstra Partners are grouped by specialisations and have deep capability in building, deploying and managing Telstra solutions, and complementary services. The Partner channel is Telstra's way of providing an end-to-end premium support solution to corporate customers.

Telstra enterprise and business partner

The Telstra Partner Domains are:

  • Data +IP Networks
  • Unified Communications

Telstra Partners are tiered as either Platinum, Gold, Silver or Accredited. Platinum Partner accreditation tier is achieved by only the top 5-10 partners in each Domain.

Partner accreditation is based on rigorous and extensive completion of subject-matter training by a minimum number of employees, demonstration of capability deploying specialist solutions and services to Telstra customers, and by meeting challenging commercial targets.

Telstra Partners sign a exclusivity contract with Telstra, and do not connect other carrier's services.

Telstra categorises its customers according to size and spend. Many organisations will be tagged as either Enterprise or Business customers; but SMBs, organisations with smaller Telstra commitments, or organisations with their services shared across carriers may be tagged as 'unmanaged' or 'unassigned .'

Enterprise and Business customers will have an aligned Telstra account management team. They can be aligned with a Telstra Partner to provide strategic account management and day-to-day operational support.

However, there is no 'entitlement' criteria as to who can be aligned with a Partner. Any customer who sees the value in having a Partner aligned can reach out. MobileCorp has customers it works with who may not have a Telstra account team.

Hopefully you would know you have a Partner because they would be in regular contact with you.

A Partner should be your organisation's single point of contact for all your day-to-day operational Telstra tasks.

Your Partner will facilitate virtually all your Telstra requirements, relieving you from having to contact Telstra direct for support, or from using Telstra's self-service T-Connect portal. .

If you are unsure whether you have a Partner aligned and would like to check, unfortunately this is not a straight-forward task. There is no list of Partners currently published on the Telstra website. There is no Partner code on your Telstra bill, and there is no easy way to check if you have a Partner.

If you have contractual paperwork from Telstra - a BSA or CSA - the Partner may be referenced in that documentation.

If you have a Telstra account manager that you work with, you can ask them to find out if you have an assigned Partner.

If you are still stuck, you can give MobileCorp a call on 1800 243 252 or send us an email and we will try to help you by accessing our Telstra's backend systems.

To be aligned with a Telstra Partner, you will need to sign a Telstra Authorisation form which allows the Partner to access your company account and take actions commonly known as 'Adds, Moves and Changes' on your Telstra services.

This Authorisation adds the Partner code to your Telstra account which essentially aligns the Partner to your organisation. The Authorisation can be revoked at any time and must be physically renewed every two years.

The Telstra Authorisation is an online form which must be prefilled by a Partner and emailed to the customer. If you would like to to authorise MobileCorp to look after your Telstra account, email  [email protected]

There are more than 400 local accredited channel partners across metro and regional Australia, however information about Partners can be difficult to find.

There is no listing of Telstra partners on the Telstra website, or anywhere else for that matter. This can make it a bit tricky to find the expert support you are searching for.

Ideas to find a Telstra partner include

  • Google search for  'Telstra Partner near me'
  • Google search for 'Telstra Partner awards' to find information about the annual Domain category winners
  • Ask your Telstra account team
  • Ask your peers for a recommendation of who they work with
  • Ask other vendors you work with for a recommendation
  • Contact MobileCorp and we will recommend a Partner if we are not the right fit for your business

Typically, Telstra Partners will assign an Account Manager and a dedicated Support team to your business. They may also assign a Customer Success Manager, a Project Manager, an IT specialist like a UEM engineer or Network Engineer - dependent on the service you require.

The Account Manager will be your point of contact for discussions about your Telstra account at a strategic level. They will

  • invest in understanding your corporate technology requirements
  • review your current Telstra fleet, products and solutions
  • provide advice about emerging technologies
  • represent your interests in renewal or procurement negotiations

Telstra Platinum Partner

How do Telstra Partners work with Telstra ?

Telstra Partners work alongside the Telstra account team in a collaborative approach to ensure both the customer and Telstra reach agreement about the Telstra services being supplied.

A Partner will represent the customer's interests to Telstra and can access promotional discounts and specialised pricing through liaison with the Telstra account team.

A Partner will also have a deep understanding of Telstra products and solutions, and a proven record of secure deployment, and ongoing managed services.

Up until 2020, the cost of Telstra Partner services and support - particularly mobility - was covered by Telstra and tied to connection or renewal of services. The move to the no-lock-in contracts of Telstra Adaptive Mobility plans stripped out all value-added services, so the cost of these is now transparent and for the customer to choose if required.

Adaptive Mobility customers will determine the Services they require and these are contracted directly with the Partner, and invoiced with full cost transparency.

The cost associated with having the services of a Telstra Partner is wholly dependent on the service the Partner supplies to the customer. The range can be quite broad and can be applied as either an upfront or a monthly payment. It can be paid directly to the Partner or charged on the customer's Telstra bill.

As a minimum, for mobile fleet support, Telstra promotes the Adaptive Mobility Care product. This is a minimum viable service providing basic operational support helpdesk and is charged at $3 per mobile service per month.

Most Partners will then have a tiered offering. MobileCorp has a Managed Mobility stack which ranges upwards from $6 per service per month.

New call-to-action

A Partner will be aligned with your strategic technology ambitions and provide subject matter expertise and innovation.

A Partner is a responsive expert resource that is committed to leveraging their knowledge of Telstra services and systems, to ensure customers get the best out of their Telstra relationship.

A Telstra Partner will take on responsibility for being the single point of contact for all your Telstra-related services including day-to-day operational fleet management and end user support.

A Telstra Partner has expert knowledge of all Telstra solutions and also has direct access to Telstra back-end services and billing systems enabling swift issue resolution.

A Telstra Partner will learn your infrastructure, processes and policies, and provide vital continuity of service, and strong personal relationships built over time and through shared activity.

  • Single Point of Contact for all Telstra issues
  • Operational Resource for day-to-day management tasks
  • Responsive Australian-based Helpdesk for expert support. No more hanging on the phone for an hour or more.
  • Strategic Input and expertise to technology roadmap
  • Business Intelligence Reporting
  • Telstra account team alignment
  • Contract Negotiation services

Telstra operates in over 20 countries outside of Australia and has access to more than 2,000 Points of Presences (PoPs) in more than 200 countries and territories globally. Telstra has formal alliances with many international carriers, and a sub-sea cable network, with licences in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

A Telstra Global Partner will be able to consolidate your international fleet management requirements providing a single point of contact for operational tasks and end-user support, and may be able to consolidate all your costs onto the Telstra bill (available with some overseas carriers). It allows customers to cut through the workload of having to deal with multiple carriers to orchestrate device procurement, new connections/disconnections, global roaming, IDD and billing.

Telstra-global-logo

Telstra, and before it Telecom Australia, has had a partner ecosystem for more than 30 years. MobileCorp has been a partner since the late 1980s. You can read about Our History . Telstra sees its Partner Channel as allowing it to provide a premium support service to its corporate customers, and as a strategic sales and solution implementation arm providing deep capability in Telstra products and solutions.

Do Optus or Vodafone have Enterprise and Business Partners?

Telstra has a world-class Partner ecosystem, one that other domestic carriers in Australia have not been able to replicate. This is a key competitive advantage for Telstra.

Optus and Vodafone corporate customers are provided with access to a self-service portal and will need to assign internal resource  to manage day-to-day mobility fleet management tasks. Orders through the self-service portal will be diverted to a bulk ticketing system and the SLA on response times would be worth further investigation.

Optus and Vodafone will also assign an Account Manager as an escalation point and for strategic account discussions.

Optus has been known to offer a third-party support partner to its largest value Enterprise customers, but this is not common practice.

Telstra stores focus on consumer solutions and most are not equipped to deal in any depth with enterprise or business requirements. A few larger Telstra stores are also Telstra Partners and are capable of supporting corporate customers to varying degrees. These stores often have separate entities off-site to manage corporate relationships.

All Telstra stores can offer business customers basic device procurement, plan connections and disconnections. complaint reporting, and some basic operational support services such as SIM swaps and SIM activation.

SMBs with a small number of Telstra devices and basic support needs, may find a local Telstra store combined with a Telstra T-Connect self-service portal meets their needs, however it is unlikely that a Telstra store will be the best fit to meet the needs of most corporate customers.

Purchasing a device through a Telstra store or from a third party retailer is not advised for corporate customers as they are unlikely to be equipped to access your Telstra DES credentials and enrol your devices. Why businesses should always buy mobile devices through business channels

Real-time shipping rates Also referred to as carrier-calculated shipping rates, this method is for businesses who engage postal service providers, such as Australia Post, to perform their shipping. Self-calculated shipping rates This method is for businesses who choose to set up a fixed, flat-rate shipping option, or a custom table of shipping rate options. Online Search Ranking

No, you don’t have to be a Telstra customer to buy an Online Search Ranking package. We can audit and help to optimise your website no matter what hosting platform you use.

The Online Search Ranking package addresses elements that influence the search ranking of your website. We’ll first audit your website to assess what needs to be addressed to improve your search ranking.

Questions we ask during the audit include but are not limited to:

  • How well written is your website content?
  • Is all content titled correctly?
  • Are  keywords  used throughout your website?
  • Is your website responsive and easy-to-view on both desktops and mobiles?
  • How long does it take for your website to load?
  • Are the transactions between your website and the customer secure, i.e. does your website support SSL?
  • Is the content on your website up-to-date?
  • Does your website feature imagery and video content?
  • Are there any links on your website that no longer work, otherwise known as  broken links ?
  • Is your website listed in online directories? Such as Google Business Profile, Facebook Business, Apple Maps or others?
  • How much traffic is your website receiving?

After you buy an Online Search Ranking package, we’ll perform an audit of up to 5 pages of your website and provide you with an outline of how we’ll address potential issues detected. We’ll also let you know about opportunities for improvement.

We’ll help to optimise up to 5 of your website pages.

A keyword is a word that describes the content on your page or post best. It is these words that customers will likely enter in search engines when looking for products and/or services online.

Using the right keywords in your website content is important as they will help customers to find your website. We’ll help you to research the keywords that your customers may be entering in search engines when looking for the products and/or services that you provide. For example, if you sell birthday cakes we’ll check that you’re using this keyword and recommend similar phrases that may help you to improve your search engine ranking.

Yes, we’ll work with you to select the best keywords for your website and help you to update them at any time.

If you update your website regularly, search engines are more likely to rank your website higher in search engine results. Pages such as ‘Contact Us’ or ‘About Us’ do not need to be updated regularly, so many businesses launch blogs so that they can make more frequent updates to their websites. This helps to improve search engine rankings.

We’ll create a blog post for you at the time you buy an Online Search Ranking package, and one blog post per quarter thereafter based on your direction.

No, we’ll create blog posts for you. No content will be finalised or published without your review and approval.

When you buy an Online Search Ranking package, we conduct a briefing call to learn about your business. During this initial consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to provide us with blog post topics that are relevant to your business. We’ll then work with the information you provide us to formulate blog post ideas. Once blog posts are created, we’ll send them to you for your review.

Once you’ve signed up for our search ranking service, the speed at which your ranking will improve depends on several factors, including but not limited to:

  • Keywords used in content
  • Your industry
  • Your business location
  • Your website’s design

You can benefit from this service even if your website is hosted with another provider. If this is the case, we’ll simply provide recommendations and guide you on how to implement changes across your website.

Search engines regularly update the ranking factors that help to determine how websites are ranked. So, ongoing website maintenance helps you to maintain and improve your online presence.

If you’ve already created a website on a Telstra website plan and you invest in an Online Ranking Package, we’ll be able to access your website and perform ongoing maintenance on your behalf.

We’ll provide you with  quarterly reports outlining actions we’ve taken to help improve your website’s search engine ranking. Our reports will help you to keep track of:

  • Website performance
  • Website traffic
  • Leads generation
  • Search engine rankings

We’ll also call you once per quarter to discuss your website’s performance and to provide quarterly recommendations on ways to improve your website.

No, you won’t be charged when you choose to implement our recommendations. If you have a website on a Telstra website plan, we’ll make the changes on your behalf. If your website is hosted by another platform, we’ll work with you to help make changes as we may not have access to your website or be familiar with its content management system.

We’ll monitor your website continuously and if ranking factors change, we’ll respond accordingly to help your site remain search engine optimised.

Telstra announces T22 small business plans

corinne-reichert-headshot-2.jpg

Telstra has taken the wraps off its new small business plans, including a 24/7 tech support service and a fixed-line fault "concierge".

The plans were announced as part of the Telstra2022 strategy unveiled in June, which saw 8,000 jobs axed and is focused on "simplifying" the telco's offerings.

"Our new approach for small business is built around three things: Flexibility to enable businesses to scale and choose what is right for them; greater cost certainty and value; and expert service and advice," Telstra CEO Andy Penn said.

"This is a significant increase to the level of dedicated service and support we provide small businesses, to help take away complexity and give them peace of mind with their technology usage and support."

Under the AU$69 per month Business Choice mobile plan, small business will be able to order a mobile device -- with tablet plans costing AU$29 per month -- with no lock-in contracts, meaning they can add and subtract mobile plans month-to-month as their business peaks; remove excess data charges in Australia; and provide choices of add-ons, including business devices such as the Microsoft Surface Go.

According to the telco, making the plans more flexible will enable small businesses to scale with more cost certainty.

Telstra Platinum for Business is the telco's 24/7 phone and online tech advice and support offering, which comes with an on-call IT team that provides advice, installation, setup, troubleshooting across new technology hardware, software, cloud, and payment services. The service is priced at AU$40 per month or AU$60 per month with Platinum Business Security Service thrown in.

"From 26 December, Platinum for Business Security Service will also be available to small business customers, providing three security assessments, an annual health check report, and updates on the latest threats to help keep businesses up to date about their security," the telco explained.

Telstra is also launching unlimited data broadband plans starting at AU$100 per month for 24 months as a standard inclusion on its Business Bundle plans, which also includes a Telstra Business Smart Modem providing mobile backup for broadband dropouts.

In addition, the telco said it will triple its small business specialists in retail stores nationwide, bringing the number up to 3,000.

Telstra will also launch a new national IT channel for small business customers who have "more complex technology needs", called Telstra Business Technology Centres, in early 2019.

"Telstra Business Technology Centres ... will operate across a national footprint of 28 regions and be run by expert teams from Telstra's existing group of channel partners," Telstra said.

"The teams in each centre will provide personal and virtual account management to local business customers, helping them make the most of technology to do things such as be found and sell online, operate virtual teams across geographies, and keep their operations and their customers' data safe and secure."

Lastly, Telstra's new "concierge" tech support service will help small business customers with National Broadband Network (NBN) or fixed-line service faults, which will be included in all of its broadband bundles.

Previously under T22, Telstra had introduced new consumer mobile plans in July, which were based around greater personalisation as well as removing excess data charges and improving customer experience.

Telstra's goal is to have 20 core plans in a modular design by June next year covering both consumer and small business, with its next milestone under the T22 strategy to be to introduce a "market-leading loyalty program" in March 2019.

The four-pillar strategy for the next three years has six goals: to improve customer experiences; simplify its products, business, and operating model; extend its "network superiority and 5G leadership"; achieve global high performance in employee engagement; achieve a net cost productivity of AU$2.5 billion by FY22; and attain a post-NBN return on invested capital of 10 percent.

The max speed data allowances on the primary service and team plans combine into one pool to be shared between all users. No excess data charges apply, instead speeds are slowed to 2Mbps once the plans’ data cap is reached.

For more than ten connections, Vodafone offers Business Flex Plans, which are tailored to a business’ individual requirements by a Vodafone personal account manager.

The following table shows a selection of Vodafone postpaid plans on Canstar Blue’s database, listed in order of cost, from the lowest to highest. Use our comparison tool to see plans from a range of other providers. This is a selection of products with links to a referral partner.

Optus business mobile plans

Optus offers three small business mobile plans, including Small, Medium and Large options with prices from $52 monthly. All three plans offer no locked-in contracts and unlimited standard national calls and texts. The Medium and Large plans also offer international calls and texts.

The max speed data allowances on Business Choice plans combine into one pool to be shared between all users. No excess data charges apply, instead speeds are slowed to 1.5Mbps once the plans’ data cap is reached.

Optus also offers a four SIM Business Teams Plus Plan, which includes 320GB of data to share between four lines and the option to add additional SIMs. For larger companies, Optus offers Business Fund plans, which feature device credits, and are tailored to a business’ individual requirements by an Optus business consultant.

The following table shows a selection of Optus postpaid plans on Canstar Blue’s database, listed in order of cost, from the lowest to highest. Use our comparison tool to see plans from a range of other providers. This is a selection of products with links to a referral partner.

Ultimately, choosing the right mobile plan for a small business comes down to the number of phone plans required, and the firm’s data, phone-call and messaging needs.

So before making a decision, it’s recommended to consider your business’ current and future requirements and to research the plans on offer, and if you have any questions to contact a telco directly.

Overall, while Telstra’s basic business mobile plans are not the cheapest in the market, and don’t offer the most data, they do come with the support of one of Australia’s leading telecommunications companies.

Telstra is perhaps the most renowned telco in Australia with, inarguably, the largest collective mobile network. Comparatively, Telstra mobile plans are pricier than the competition. But that extra investment typically leads to more expansive coverage, faster potential speeds and more plan perks.

Telstra mobile quick facts

  • The Telstra mobile network reaches 99.5% of the Australian population across 5G, 4G and 3G technologies. Telstra 5G is available to 85% of Australians.
  • Telstra offers Prepaid Prepaid, SIM Only (paid in advance) and plans with the option to bundle a handset outright or pay off a mobile phone over one, two or three years.
  • Telstra SIM Only mobile plans come with limitless data, wherein speeds after a full-speed allowance are capped at 1.5Mbps, while Telstra Prepaid plans have a 200GB data bank.
  • Telstra Plus is an opt-in program that offers discounted and presale tickets, plus a rewards store.

What are the different types of Telstra plans?

Telstra mobile plans are available in a few different flavours. For controlled spending, there are Telstra Prepaid plans . For more data and inclusions, consider a Telstra SIM Only plan. If you’re in the market for a new mobile phone, have a look at a Telstra mobile bundled plan, which are the same as Telstra SIM Only plans albeit with a handset repayment.

Telstra SIM Only mobile plans and prices

These days, Telstra SIM Only mobile plans are called Telstra Upfront plans. Why? Like Telstra Prepaid plans, Telstra Upfront plans are paid in advance of a monthly billing cycle, though the inclusions are similar to SIM Only plans from competing telcos. All Telstra SIM Only plans include access to the Telstra 5G network these days, though speeds may be capped on the cheapest plan. Basically, the more you pay, the more data you get with a gigabyte leap between the cheapest Telstra SIM Only plan and the next option.

Telstra Prepaid mobile plans and prices

Telstra sells a range of Prepaid mobile plans, available as Starter Packs of ongoing Prepaid plans. Starter Packs are generally a cheaper way to get started and include a Telstra SIM card . Telstra ongoing Prepaid plans are charged in either 28-day, six-month or 12-month blocks. While Telstra Prepaid plans have access to the Telstra 5G network, speeds are capped.

Telstra Postpaid mobile plans and prices

Telstra Postpaid mobile plans are identical to Telstra Upfront/SIM Only plans in terms of data and inclusions except they let customers bundle a handset. You’ll have the choice of paying outright or paying off the mobile phone over a fixed period.

What do you get with Telstra plans?

Telstra mobile plan speeds.

All Telstra mobile plans include access to the Telstra 5G network, though the speeds vary based on the type and price of the plan. For Telstra Prepaid plans, download speeds are capped at 150Mbps. For Telstra SIM Only plans, speeds are either capped at 250Mbps on the cheapest plan or uncapped on pricier options. According to Opensignal , Telstra mobile download speeds average out at around 60Mbps collectively and around 81Mbps for 5G users. Upload speeds around 9Mbps.

Telstra mobile plan data

Data allowances also vary based on how much you pay. The data inclusions for Telstra SIM Only plans are comfortably above the median mobile phone data allowance (35GB per month). More expensive Telstra SIM Only plans offer hundreds of gigabytes of monthly data. Telstra Prepaid plans may have bonus data for initial recharges but, compared to Telstra SIM Only plans, they have lower dollar-to-data value.

Telstra mobile plan international calls

As is the norm these days, unlimited standard national calls and text are a baseline part of Telstra SIM Only and Prepaid plans. International calls vary by plan type. Telstra SIM Only plans include unlimited standard text to any international number and 30 minutes of calls to any country. For Telstra Prepaid plans, it depends on which one you buy, with international call minutes ranging from 300–6,000 for Zone 1 countries.

Telstra Prepaid plans also include fewer minutes for Zone 2 (60–800 minutes) and Zone 3 (5–100 minutes) countries. Note that international text isn’t included. Here are the Telstra Zone 1 dialling destinations: Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, United States of America and Vietnam.

These are the Telstra Zone 2 international options: Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Iceland, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, France, Iran, Israel, Kenya, Kuwait, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Peru, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.

And here are the Telstra Zone 3 dialling destinations: Austria, Comoros, Croatia, East Timor, Egypt, Fiji, Ghana, Mauritius, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Russia, Samoa, Serbia, Solomon Islands, Surinam, Switzerland, Tonga, Turkey, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.

If there’s a Telstra mobile deal today, whether it’s for SIM Only or Prepaid, you’ll see it listed below.

Telstra plan features

Telstra has a reputation for pricey but feature-rich mobile plans. While promotional pricing isn’t as common as competing telcos, Telstra Prepaid plans tend to come with bonus data on initial recharges and you shouldn’t expect any upfront fees outside of the cost of the plan.

Whether you go with Telstra SIM Only or Telstra Prepaid, international roaming is via paid add-on. There’s a day pass, which includes 1GB of data as well as unlimited calls and SMS for Zone 1 and Zone 2 countries. Zone 3 countries only have unlimited calls and SMS. There’s also a 1GB data top-up for eligible countries. Note that country eligibility may be determined by Telstra plan type.

Telstra is one of a growing number of telcos to support eSIM . Customers with compatible mobile phones can opt for an eSIM instead of a physical SIM card on a Telstra Prepaid or Telstra SIM Only plan via the My Telstra app. While there isn’t any data rollover for SIM Only plans, Telstra Prepaid customers can access up to 200GB of data rollover. Data sharing is available for Telstra SIM Only plans, which includes Telstra family plans. Bundle up to five eligible mobile or data plans under a single Telstra family plan.

Students and pensioners may also be eligible for discounted fees on Telstra mobile plans. Telstra customers can also tap into the opt-in perks of the Telstra Plus program. This rewards program is available to all Telstra customers and offers discounted tickets (movies and sports) as well as presale access to selected concerts, art performances and galleries. There’s also a rewards store where customers can spend points—or a mix of points and money—for a range of products and services.

Telstra Upfront and Telstra Prepaid customers have the option of purchasing a mobile phone. Brands like Apple iPhone, Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy and Motorola Razr are available to buy outright or as part of an interest-free payment. Handset repayment terms are either 12 months, 24 months or 36 months. You’re free to cancel a no-contract Telstra Upfront plan at any time and just pay out the remainder of your handset repayment.

Telstra customers after a mobile phone can choose from a range of colours and storage capacities (where available), plus there’s free delivery and, in some instances, bonus trade-in credit for eligible handsets. Pair a flagship smartphone or mid-range handset with a Telstra Upfront plan to get the process started.

Additionally, Telstra also stocks a range of comparatively cheaper phones for pairing with Telstra Prepaid plans. The selection includes cheaper options like Telstra-branded mobile phones to budget models from known brands like the Samsung Galaxy A and Motorola Moto G ranges. Prepaid phones are purchased outright and prices range from around $60 to under $350.

Telstra has the largest mobile network in Australia across 5G, 4G and 3G technologies. For Telstra (and Boost Mobile ) customers, that translates to a mobile network that’s available to 99.5% of the Australian population. Reportedly, 85% of Australians can access the Telstra 5G network. The interactive map below provides a visual idea of Telstra coverage. Tick or untick the 5G, 4G and 3G boxes then move the map to a desired location to see network coverage. Note that Telstra is shutting down its 3G network on 30 June 2024.

How to switch to Telstra

Switching between telcos in Australia is a straightforward process, and Telstra is no exception. Here’s how to switch to Telstra:

  • Pick the Telstra mobile plan that works best for your needs. Optionally, add an available mobile phone. Click the ‘Go to Site’ button (if available) or head to the Telstra website.
  • Confirm your Telstra Upfront or Telstra Prepaid by clicking the corresponding blue-circle (SIM Only) or blue-box (Prepaid) plan on the Telstra website. Click ‘Add to cart’ to proceed.
  • Click on the ‘Secure checkout’ button. Register for a Telstra ID if you’re a new Telstra customer or sign in with your Telstra ID if you’re a returning customer.
  • Follow the prompts and enter the requested details to complete the sign-up process. Note you may need to provide an Australian driver licence or passport as well as income and/or employment details.

For new Telstra SIM Only services, SIM cards should automatically activate within four hours after confirmation of delivery. Insert the Telstra SIM card into a compatible device and, if four hours has passed without activation, restart the handset. We recommend pre-downloading the My Telstra app before inserting a SIM card. Activate the SIM for Telstra SIM Only or Prepaid plans inside My Telstra under ‘Get Help’, ‘My Orders’ and then ‘Activate your SIM’.

Telstra

Telstra and Optus extend 3G network closure deadline

Telstra and microsoft strike ai-oriented partnership deal, genesys awards top apac partners for 2024, telstra to cut up to 2,800 jobs amid enterprise business 'reset'.

Telstra has announced the creation of Telstra Business to help Australian small and medium businesses leverage technology and digitise for the future.

Commencing operations on 9 October, Telstra Business will see a team of experts work closely with businesses to provide the right connectivity, technology and digitisation solutions to support innovation and growth.

"We live in an era defined by digital innovation and growth in technology," Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady said.

Our new dedicated Telstra Business team will support small to medium businesses to harness the transformative benefits of technology through secure products, solutions and support, tailored to their needs so they can focus on growth and expanding their business,” Brady added.

Telstra Business will be led by Amanda Hutton as group executive.

Hutton has been with Telstra for over six years in various executive roles, responsible for retail stores and small business centres, transformation and digitisation strategies.

She previously spent 15 years leading service, customer and product teams for other globally recognised telco brands.

“Amanda is a highly regarded, customer-focussed leader with extensive technology and telecommunications experience. She has a strong track record of transformation, championing customer experience improvement, and is a leader in digitisation,” said Ms Brady.

Ms Brady said Telstra Business will serve small to medium business customers currently looked after by Telstra’s Consumer & Small Business function and businesses with up to 500 employees in the Telstra Enterprise function.

“This will enable all three customer facing functions to better tailor solutions to meet the changing  needs of their customers in the digital economy,” said Ms Brady.

“For our enterprise customers, Telstra Enterprise will now deepen its focus on helping Australia's biggest industries and government grow and transform their operations through world-class expertise, leading technology solutions and the power of Australia's best mobile network.”

Coverage details

Mobile device coverage depends on where you are, the device you are using and whether it has an external antenna attached.

5G coverage

The 5G symbol appearing on the device represents that 5G is available on the network in the vicinity of the device. Speed and performance, and whether a 5G device uses the available 5G depends on prevailing radio conditions at your location and whether the device is actively downloading or uploading data. Outside of 5G coverage, 5G devices will continue to use our fastest available 4G, or 3G where 4G is unavailable.

Outdoor coverage

The Telstra mobile coverage checks have been created using tools that predict the likely areas of outdoor coverage. We have not individually tested every particular location within the identified outdoor coverage areas for coverage. This means that while the footprint of outdoor coverage for a particular location is generally accurate, there may be some areas described as being within the outdoor coverage area proximate to locations searched where your device will not work. This is a common characteristic of wireless systems. For example, actual outdoor coverage could be degraded or not existent in specific locations due to certain geographic features or as a result of the device used. Geographic features that may reduce or block outdoor coverage could include formations, such as hills and mountains or even trees.

Indoor coverage

The Telstra mobile coverage checks also provide an indication of the availability of indoor coverage at locations searched, where this is predicted. This is as accurate as we can make it based on what we know. Indoor coverage is highly variable and there may be locations where indoor coverage is indicated, but your device will not work due to local building density, physical structures and building materials. For example, the following things may reduce or block indoor coverage: basements, lifts, underground car parks, concrete buildings, tunnels and road cuttings, steel framing and metallic window film. Devices such as the Telstra Mobile Smart Antenna may assist to improve indoor coverage where it would otherwise not occur.

Offshore coverage

Factors beyond Telstra's control such as the weather, tides, sea conditions and your antenna installation (type and height of antenna above sea level) can significantly influence the actual user experience of coverage, data speed and performance in offshore locations. Public mobile networks must not be relied upon as a primary method of emergency communication at sea.

Things you need to know

Plan prices.

Your plan and add-ons may change (including price and inclusions), or we may move you to a new plan (which may cost more). If you don't like a change, you can change your plan or cancel your plan or add-ons. When you cancel, your service will be disconnected immediately. We won't refund any money you've already paid, and you'll need to pay out any remaining devices, accessories or services in full when you cancel.

Telstra currently offers 5G in select areas and is progressively rolling it out to other areas. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G or 3G.  Check coverage map . Telstra will be switching off 3G on 31 August 2024. Before switch off, you can use handsets supporting 3G on 850MHz and 4G minimally on 700MHz and 1800MHz. See how to  check your device  for more information. After switch off you will still be able to access the Telstra Mobile Network provided your device is 4G voice enabled and 4G 700MHz compatible. Find out more on our  3G closure  page.

The Telstra Mobile Network offers 4GX in all capital CBDs and selected suburban and regional areas and is progressively rolling out to more places. In other coverage areas around Australia, you’ll automatically switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G.  Check coverage map .

Outside 4GX areas, you will switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G speeds. Speeds vary for reasons like location, distance from base stations, terrain, user numbers, hardware/software configuration, download source and upload destination.

Plan speeds

Speeds may vary due to factors such as location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination. For 5G coverage information, check coverage map .

This plan comes with a data allowance to use in Australia. You won’t be charged if you go over your monthly data allowance. Instead, you can continue to access data up to speeds of 1.5Mbps. 1.5mbps isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications, and means that some web pages, social media content and files may take longer to load). In addition, heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. The speeds you actually receive may vary depending on a range of factors including your device, location, number of users and download sources. Your data allowance is for personal use in a smartphone or tablet in Australia only and the FairPlay Policy applies.

Compatible handset

Compatible Telstra mobile network handset required.  Check your device's compatibility.

Device Payment Contract (DPC)

You must have an eligible Telstra Mobile Plan in order to have a DPC. If you cancel your DPC early, cancel your mobile plan during the device payment term or move to an ineligible mobile plan during the payment term, you’ll need to pay out your device, in full. Device discounts do not apply to cancelled DPC.

Talk, text and data

Excludes calls, SMS and MMS to premium numbers, some satellite numbers, and use overseas.

International Calling Pack

30 minutes of international calls and unlimited international SMS, to all countries, are included in our Upfront Mobile plans. Once you’ve used the 30 minutes, you can add an International Calling Pack to your plan from $10 per month. You can add or remove it at any time in the My Telstra app. International Calling Pack includes an allowance of calls from Australia to standard international numbers in eligible destinations.  View eligible destinations here .

International roaming

The only way to use your service overseas is by purchasing an International Roaming day pass. You can purchase an International Roaming day pass at $5 per day in 7 eligible countries, or $10 per day in more than 70 eligible countries. Day pass Zone 1 and 2 packs include 2GB of data to use per day as well as unlimited talk and text. Usage expires at the end of a 24-hour day pass period. If you go over your 2GB, you can add an additional 2GB for $10 for use within 31 days. A day pass is triggered whenever a call is made or received, an SMS is sent or if any mobile data is used in an eligible destination.

If you’re travelling to a destination where our International Roaming day pass isn’t available, you cannot use your Telstra service.

Telstra Plus upgrade

You're eligible for the Telstra Plus upgrade if you’re an existing Telstra Plus member or if you sign up to Telstra Plus and are on an Essential or Premium mobile plan. Telstra Plus tier upgrade will be applied within 30 days and will apply for a year aligned to membership date. Once you reach the anniversary of the relevant membership year, we'll let you know that this offer is ending and you'll be moved to the relevant tier based on your previous year’s spend.

Cancelling your plan

If you cancel your Telstra Upfront Mobile Plan, you will not receive a pro rata refund for the remainder of your month. If you have any device, accessory or service add-ons attached to your plan, you will have to pay any remaining amount owing as a one-off payment.

Changes to your plan

Your upfront mobile plan may change (including price and inclusions). With no lock-in, you can change your plan once a month or leave. If you leave, just pay out your device, accessories or services in full.

Telstra Trade-In is managed by Assurant Services Australia Pty Ltd. To be eligible for Trade-In, you must be a Telstra consumer or small business customer aged 18+, with a post-paid service and have a device, tablet or smartwatch with us on an Upfront plan or with an existing 13-digit account number. Not available to customers with a ten-digit account number or Upgrade & Protect. Devices on Telstra Mobile Lease plans are ineligible. The credit offer will vary depending on your device, tablet or smartwatch type, model and its working condition, and is subject to assessment. Credit applied by second bill, or to a nominated credit/debit card within 30 days for Upfront Mobile plans. For more details  check the Trade-In page .

How much storage do I need?

Consider your usage.

How much storage you’ll need depends on how you use your phone or tablet. If you mainly use it for web browsing and checking social media, you may only need up to 64GB of storage.

If you’re a casual user who likes to take a few photos, you might need a bit more storage – say up to 128GB.

But if you take a lot of photos and videos, or play lots of graphic-intensive games with your phone or tablet, you’re more likely to need a larger amount of storage – say 256GB or more.

Here’s an example

As a rough guide, a 128GB phone or tablet on average can store approximately:

  • 1 hour of Ultra HD video
  • 1,000 songs
  • 100 apps and games

Again, this is a rough guide only and will vary depending on the size of the files, apps and games being stored.

It’s worth noting that if you max out your storage, your phone or tablet is likely to run a bit slower. For that reason, many people prefer to opt for more storage.

How to earn Telstra Plus points

Telstra Plus members earn points on eligible payments for their Telstra services (excluding outright purchases, refunds, credits and late payment fees). Eligibility criteria apply to join.

Our delivery times

Within 3 business days for metro areas and 5 business days for regional areas (subject to product availability).

7 Day Price Match

Our new 7 Day Price Match provides peace of mind that you’re getting the best device price available. If you find a valid lower price on an identical device within 7 days of receiving your new device from Telstra, we’ll credit the difference to your bill.

The 7 Day Price Match is available to eligible Telstra personal and small business customers who purchase an eligible device from us, outright or on repayment.

5G network access

Enjoy greater speed, more capacity and less latency with free 5G network access, included in this plan.

To access 5G, you’ll need a 5G compatible device in a 5G coverage area. When you are not in a 5G coverage area, your device will automatically switch back to accessing 4G instead.

5G is only available in selected areas. View the  5G coverage map   to see where 5G is available and when it will be coming to your area.

Capped 4G and 5G speeds

Download speeds for included data are capped at 250Mbps on our 4G and 5G network rolling out from August.

How to access 5G

Our 5G network now reaches over 75% of Australians. To access 5G, you’ll need a 5G compatible device in a 5G coverage area. To see if 5G is in your area,  use our 5G coverage checker .

Network speed

Speeds may vary due to factors such as location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.

No excess data charges

If you exceed your included data allowance, you won’t be charged extra but your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps, and slowed further in busy periods. This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications and means that some webpages, videos, social media content and files may take longer to load. However, you can still stream video in standard definition, listen to music, browse the web and access social media, even if the experience is slower sometimes. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods.

Ultimate speeds

Ultimate 5g speeds.

With your plan’s included data, enjoy greater speed, more capacity and less latency with our fastest 5G network access.

Bundle Plans

What are bundle plans.

Bundle plans are a great way to save money and get everyone in your business connected. From August, there will be two kinds of Bundle Plans available: Mobile Bundle Plans and Data Bundle Plans.

You’ll need to have at least one service on your account on an Essential and Premium plan to take up a Bundle Plan.

How many Bundle Plans can I add to my account?

If you’re an Upfront plan customer, you can add up to 5 Bundle Plans in total, regardless of the number of Essential and Premium Plans you have active on your account. If you’re not an Upfront plan customer, you can add 5 Bundle Plans to each Essential and Premium mobile or data plan you have active on your account.

Mobile Bundle Plans

Mobile Bundle Plans let you add employees’ phones to your account so you can all share data and enjoy access to a data allowance with uncapped download speeds on Australia’s best network. They’re a great value alternative to Pre-Paid plans.

Data Bundle Plans

Data Bundle Plans let you add data to employees’ business tablets or mobile broadband devices at a great price, and manage them on your business account. They’re great for businesses who work on the go or across multiple within Australia’s largest network.

Consumer Price Index (CPI)

What is consumer price index (cpi).

CPI is the rate of inflation and is calculated annually by collecting prices for goods and services that households buy. It is measured as the rate of change of those prices, which typically rise over time.

How does Telstra determine what the CPI rate will be?

Telstra doesn't determine CPI. We take the annual result as determined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

We’ll use the CPI rate released by ABS for the 12 months to the March quarter and any increase will be rounded to the nearest dollar.

Eligible destinations

Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, USA and UK.

No lock-in plan

No lock-in means our plans can change.

Our month-to-month mobile plans with no lock-in contracts give you the flexibility to change your plan size once a month, to suit your data needs.

Because these plans aren’t locked in, it also means that from time to time we may make changes to your plan price and/or inclusions (such as data allowance), or we may move you to a new plan (which may cost more).

However, if we reasonably think that a change is likely to have a more than minor detrimental impact on you, we'll tell you at least 30 days before making it. If you don't like the change, you can change your plan size or cancel your plan at any time. If you cancel, you’ll just need to pay out your device, accessories and add-ons as a one-off payment when you cancel.

Speed slowed to a maximum of 1.5Mbps

When you exceed your data allowance in Australia, you can continue to access data, but your speed will be slowed to a maximum of 1.5Mbps. This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications, and some web pages, social media content and files may take longer to load.

Your speed will depend on a range of factors including your device, location, user numbers and download sources, and may be slowed further during busy periods. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. For personal use on a smartphone in Australia only and the FairPlay Policy applies.

Data Sharing

Share mobile data amongst your team.

Enjoy the flexibility of data that’s shareable with other eligible services on the same account.

Why choose us for business?

Australia’s best mobile network.

The Telstra mobile network reaches further, runs faster and works better than any other.

No lock-in contracts

Our new month-to-month plans with no lock-in contracts give you the flexibility to change your plan once a month. If you leave, simply pay out your device.

No excess data charges in Australia

We won’t charge you for going over your monthly data allowance, but your data will be slowed.
